The American Friends of Youth Club (AFYC) was founded in 2012 by students at Tbilisi State University to popularize U.S. culture and values and enhance political culture among students. The organization held an essay contest on terrorism and student debates modeling the 2012 U.S. presidential election. In February 2012, the group launched a project engaging over 67 students from across Georgia in sociocultural activities focused on spreading democratic values and U.S. culture, reaching an estimated 1000 people from 80 schools. Presentations covered topics like American politics, symbols, culture, literature, film and arts. The project increased awareness of U.S. democracy values and included more regional Georgian youth in volunteer activities.
