2. An Overview…
• What are renewable resources?
• Advantages of renewable resources
• Future challenge in Electricity generation
• Generating electricity from car motion using
nanogenerator
• Merits
• Future enhancement
3. What are renewable resources?
Any energy resource that
is naturally regenerated over a
short time scale and that is not
depleted when used such as,
i. Solar energy
ii. Wind power
iii. Tides
iv. Hydroelectricity
v. Geothermal power , etc
-are called as renewable
resources
4. Advantages of Renewable Energy
system
• Renewable energy is, well, renewable:
Renewable energy is not limited ,it is
renewable Strong winds, heat within earth,
moving water, shining sun acts as
renewable resources
• Environmental Benefits:
It is clean & it will not deplete our natural
resources. Enables us to protect the
environment from toxic pollutions, which in
turn keep people healthier.
5. Advantages of Renewable Energy
system
•Economic benefits:
Renewable energy is also cheaper
and more economically sound than
other sources of generated energy
•Stabilize Energy Prices:
Since the renewable resources are
stable , the cost of renewable energy
is dependent on the invested money
and not the increasing or decreasing
or inflated cost of the natural
resource
6. Future challenge…in ELECTRICITY
GENERATION
Energy is wasted in many ways ,even during transportation, for eg.,
when a car is in motion ,the
frictional force between the road and
the car tyres produces some energy
which is being wasted…
That energy is a RENEWABLE
ENERGY! It remains until
TRANSPORTATION EXISTS IN THIS
WORLD.
It can be converted into
electrical energy which is a FUTURE
CHALLENGE!
7. GENERATING ELECTRICITY FROM CAR
MOTION USING NANOGENERATOR
Introduction:
A car in motion -> the tyre with thermo/piezoelectric material
rotates -> heat and motion is turned into electricity.
8. The friction created ,as a car's tires run over the ground
accounts for approximately 10 percent of the vehicle's fuel
usage.
To overcome this energy wastage , we can use a
NANOGENERATOR which is a thermo or piezoelectric crystal.
This can be a development that could bring about better fuel
efficiency in the full-sized cars of the future.
9. PRINCIPLE OF THIS TECHNOLOGY:
The electrical charge that is created when certain
materials come into contact with one another .This is known
as the “triboelectric effect “
The triboelectric effect (also known as triboelectric
charging) is a type of contact electrification in which certain
materials become electrically charged after they come into
frictive contact with a different material.
10. NANOGENERATOR:
It is a type of technology that converts
mechanical/thermal energy as produced by small-
scale physical change into electricity.
Nanogenerator has three typical approaches:
1. piezoelectric nanogenerators,
2. triboelectric nanogenerators, and
3. pyroelectric nanogenerators.
In this project , we have used
PIEZOELECTRIC NANOGENERATOR
11. PIEZOELECTRIC CRYSTAL
Piezoelectric crystals are one of many small scale energy sources.
Whenever piezoelectric crystals are mechanically deformed or subject to
vibration they generate a small voltage, commonly know as piezoelectricity.
PIEZO ELECTRIC EFFECT:
Piezoelectric Effect is the ability of certain materials to generate an electric
charge in response to applied mechanical stress.
12. DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE PROJECT:
I. The motion of a vehicle on the road using NANOGENERATOR ,
turns heat and motion into electricity using a fishnet pattern of
thermo/piezoelectric material
II. The vehicle has an electrode built into a section of the tire.
13. III. As the wheel spins and this part of the tire comes into contact with the
ground, the charge created by the friction causes electrons to move, in turn
generating electricity.
IV. As the car moved forward, enough power was created to cause the lights to
flash on and off, suggesting that this hitherto wasted energy could actually be
captured and put to use.
V. The amount of energy the system was able to produce was proportionate to
both the weight of the vehicle and the speed at which it was traveling.
15. • Cars are one of mankind's most revolutionary
creations.
• It is a major means of transportation in india
and all over the world.
• Hence, the energy wasted over cars can be
renewed(captured) and put into a new
form(Electricity)
16. MERITS…
• The system produce a small amount of electricity,is stored in
the battery of the vehicle(car) which is enough to glow the
headlights in vehicle.
• The electricity thus generated is sufficient to charge the
mobile phone inside the vehicle.
Thus the loss of 10% of energy wastage in terms of fuel is
REGAINED IN TERMS OF ELECTRICITY
17. FUTURE ENHANCEMENT…
1. We have projected our idea by implementing the
Nanogenerator technology in cars, the same can be
implemented with all two wheelers , three wheelers & four
wheelers.
2. The electrical energy thus saved can be stored in a separate
battery rather than the battery of the vehicle and it can be
used for various purposed in real time applications
3. Further technology can be imposed on the fact, to increase
the amount of electricity generated. The electricity generate
using this system is quite small.
18. Conclusion:
Thus the increasing use of renewable energy has
the potential to create still more jobs. Generating
electricity from renewable energy rather than fossil fuels
offers significant public health benefits.
