3. VERB:
A verb is a word that express an action or state
of being.
As we can see that in definition there are two main categories of verb:
1)ACTION VERB.
2)LINKING VERB(state of being).
4. CATEGORIES OF VERB
• ACTION VERB:-
An action is a verb that expresses physical or
mental action.
• Examples:-
1)Skip(physical).
2)Love(mental).
3)Walked(physical).
4)Think(mental).
5)Louis walked to school.
6)Marie thinks about the math problem. (e.t.c)
• LINKING VERB:-
A linking verb is a verb which connects a
subject to its predicate without expressing an action.
• Examples:-
1)He is a monster.
( In the above example “He” is a
subject and the “IS” is a liking verb And the “A
MONSTER” is a predicate).

6. MAIN VERB
• The main verb is also called lexical verb . This term refers to the important
verb in the sentence , the one which shows the action of the subject . Main
verbs can stand alone, or they can be helped along by some other little verbs.
• Example:
1)I was helped.
2)I was feeling happy.

7. TYEPS OF MAIN VERBS
1)Transitive Verbs.
2)Intransitive Verbs.
3)Phrasal verbs.
4)Non-Phrasal verbs.
8. 1)TRANSITIVE VERBS. IT IS SUB DIVIDED INTO 4 TYEPS:
1)Mono transitive verbs.
2)Di-transitive verbs.
3)Complex transitive verbs.
4)Pseudo-transitive verbs.
A transitive verb is verb that can take a
direct object . In other words ,it is done to
someone or something . Most verbs are
transitive verbs .
EXAMPLES:
1)He read a book.
2)Ben walks his dogs for a miles. (e.t.c)
9. TYEPS OF TRASITIVE VERBS
• MONO TRANSITIVE VERBS:
Mono transitive verbs are those verbs
which can take only one object.
Example:
1)He broke the window.
(e.t.c)
• DI-TRANSITIVE VERBS:
Those verbs which can take only two
objects i-e one direct and one indirect.
Example:
1)She cook the meal for her family.
(In the above example “cook” is
a di transitive verb although “the meal” is the
direct object and “her family” is indirect
object) (e.t.c)

• COMPLEX TRANSITIVE VERB:
There is special relationship
between the two complements of a
complex transitive verb.
Examples:
1)He teach English.
2)She drive the car.
• PESOUDO-TRANSITIVE VERB:
Those verbs which can take objects,
but cannot used in passive they are called
pesoudo-transitive verb.
Examples:
1)I have a car.
2)The suit suits me. (e.t.c)
11. 2)INTRNSITIVE VERBS:
• Those verbs which do not take object or in other words verbs that shows an
action which do not pass from subject(doer) to the object(recieiver).
• EXAMPLES:-
• 1)He goes to school .
• 2)We swim in the pool. (e.t.c)
12. PHRASEL VERB:-
• Verb + preposition or both of them , which give complete meaning is called phrase
verb.
• EXAMPLES:-
• Fill in .
• Go along with.(e.t.c)

1)Separbl phrasal verb.
2)Non-seprabl phrasal verb.

SEPERABLE PHRASLE
VERB:
Those verbs in which the
particle(preposition or adverb) can be
separated from the verb.
Examples:-
1)Fill the blanks in.
2)Fill in the blanks. (e.t.c)
NON-SEPARABLE PHRASEL
VERB
Those verbs in which we cannot
separate the particles(preposition or
adverb) from the verb.
Examples:-
1)Sit down.
2)Come on. (e.t.c)
14. 4)NON-PROGRASIVE VERBS:-
Some verbs are not use in progressive tense . They are also known as
stative verbs . They show state rather than action .
Examples:-
1)Love.
2)Belive.
3)Tast.
4)Seen. ( e.t.c)
