The Horizontal Revolution in Social Media- Summary
In this presentation we plan to begin with a video about social media in 2014,
to get the class thinking about the changing world of social media. After a short
discussion about the video, we will then ask the class to tweet or post a Facebook
status that is related to hump day (Wednesday); we plan to look at these posts at the
end of class to see what kind of buzz the status’ or tweets brought in. We then will
discuss the four zones of social media and show the class examples of each.
Followed by the dark side of social media and an article about a gamer that let his
son die while he played video games incessantly. We then plan to define e-commerce
and discuss the purchase process, and relate this to the ALS ice bucket
challenge. Following a discussion about the purchase process, we will have the class
play a game. The game will include groups of four people, two of whom represent
customers, and the other two represent a company. The company will be asked to
respond to the customer’s complaints in the best way they see fit. We then will
discuss the LARA framework and explain how companies should respond and
interact with their customers. To conclude we will have the class check their
statuses and tweets, and let us know if they had any responses.
