2. Introduction to Coastway
Founded in 1999 by Enda Nolan & Mark Hudson
A geospatial engineering and chartered surveying company
based in Ireland and England
Skilled geospatial engineers, geotechnical engineers, chartered
land surveyors, architects, UAV pilots, civil engineers, railway
engineers and 3D modellers
Coastway’s experience includes large infrastructure projects
such as tunnelling, railway & motorway construction in Europe
and terrain mapping in Ireland, UK, Saudi Arabia & Jordan
Kick-off Meeting
8-9/jan/2014
3. Coastway’s Expertise
Coastway’s expertise includes:
due diligence investigations & environmental impact
assessments on proposed wind farm sites and open cast mines
detailed surveying & monitoring during tunnel, motorway &
railway construction
subsurface (underground) mapping of disused coal mines in the
UK using laser scanning
archaeological mapping of islands off the west coast of Ireland
for Notre Dame University (US)
geo-hazard assessments using UAV’s and laser scanning
Kick-off Meeting
8-9/jan/2014
4. Coastway’s Role in the Project
Coastway will survey the identified forests using a combination
of traditional GPS surveying & UAV technology
captured data will be combined with laser scan data to provide a
digital terrain model (DTM), a digital canopy model (DCM) and
multi spectral imagery of the forest to identify the health of the
forest
a digital elevation model (DEM) of the mountain to identify the
geo-hazards of deforestation will be produced
geospatial and laser scanning data will enable the SLOPE
consortium to determine the biomass timber value
Kick-off Meeting
8-9/jan/2014
5. Coastway’s View of the Project
the project has great commercial potential enabling forest owners
to determine product value & viability/cost of processing
the project is perfectly suited to UAV and laser scanning
technology allowing access to vast areas of forestry on difficult
terrain
the use of new technologies will enable identification of potential
geotechnical hazards, route planning and biomass evaluation
the technologies will enable a global 3D map of forestry to be
created and mapping carried out regularly will enable growth
rates and forest health to be determined to ultimately provide upto-date valuation data
Kick-off Meeting
8-9/jan/2014
