By Nurrina Dyahpuspita

Development of science, economics, and arts, including the
development of technology.
• The development of technology enables the creation of a variety of
sophisticated tools that can facilitate human learning.
• Globalization has overshadowed the use of the mother tongue in
various regions.
• Students are required to master several languages to improve their
competences(mother toungue,national language,international
language or other foreign languages).
Globalization
the existence and the use of
ethnic minority languages
Support the mother tongue improve
competencies of national language ,
and international language acquisition.
Using learning media: TV
Edukasi (Edu-TV)

many other sides into classroom. Every audio and visual tools
that we have known can be carried by television, motion
pictures, film strip, slide (particulary to provides setting for
dramatic production), recording, drawings, maps, and
countless other instructional device. Moreover, it gives school
the opportunity to present fresh, original, creative
illustration produced in the living present” (Hamalik,
1986:136).

Discussion
• The development of thechnology in
globalization era runs very fast. It is possible
by this development to integrate the
technology into the class room practices in
form of learning media.
• Learning media can be utilized by teachers to
support the potential of students, including
developing language skills. The programs can be
developed, for example through the creation of a
language laboratory or school broadcasting.
• Preparatory steps:
1. Conduct a needs
analysis of materials
2. Prepare the materials
3. Explain the materials
using the media.
• Implementation steps:
After the students
watched the materials,
teacher guides the
students to have a
discussion and then
gives conclusions.
Some of the strengths of Edu-TV
1. Teachers and students can learn language lessons
directly through broadcasting. Students can take turn
to become the announcer (host) and the
guestspeaker.
2. Teachers can be helped to present the real material
that may not be brought into the classroom because
of its size (too big / too small), geographic constraints
(mountains, forests, rivers). Even teachers can be
helped to acquire new information or knowledge that
he did not get in college.
3. Students generally benefit from the breadth of the repertoire of
knowledge or insight. Given the potential of television
broadcasting that can be exploited for the sake of learning, then
teachers should be able to make it a source of learning and
integrate it into learning activities.
4. The use of recordings and broadcasts school education ( Edu-TV)
can be used in all phases of teaching. Ranging from opening up
the lesson to the evaluation of student learning outcomes.
5. Help both audio and visual learners. Since it presents the material
both in pictures and sounds.
6. Slow learners can play back or repeat parts that have not been
mastered. On the other hand, fast learners can move forward in
accordance with the rate of their speed of learning.
WEAKNESSES
1) Limitations of the materials
in media (broadcast
recording materials).
2) The program cannot be
repeated.
STRENGTHS
1) Availability of instructional
media educational
television.
2) Availability of time to use
educational television
media.
3) Television can bring the real
world into the home and
classes, such as people,
places, and events, through
direct broadcasting or
recording.
Conclusions
• Media and learning are two interrelated things. The use of
media and technology-based language learning should be
appropriate for the characteristics of learning materials,
approaches, methods, and techniques of learning. The use
of appropriate media can help to acheive the language
learning objectives.
• Utilizing Edu-TV in language classroom offers great
potential because of its ability to cover a wide range of
materials.
• Teachers can be helped to present the real material that
may not be brought into the classroom because of its size
(too big / too small), geographic constraints (mountains,
forests, rivers). Even teachers can be helped to acquire new
information or knowledge that he did not get in college.
