1. What is news?
Write 2 pages project to demonstrate that you know the
difference between news, as opposed to social media, opinion,
analysis or public relations.
· Look for a news article with lasting social impact. This will be
something recent and of long-term importance to people's lives
(so not sports or traffic accidents, but legal changes, community
funding or and improvement of community assets, for example) .
· Begin with a paragraph that describes your story, its social
importance and its link. Include information on how you
determined it was a story, as opposed to a video clip, teaser,
advertisement, or promotion.
· Dedicate a paragraph to demonstrating the validity of your
choice using at least two of the five media determinants learned
previously.
· Dedicate a paragraph to the identification of your media
source as legitimate news media using results from the
following website: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com
· Dedicate a paragraph to speculation on at least two stories you
might like to write in followup if the story had been your
professional work.
As always, use exceptional grammar. Web, broadcast, and print
are all acceptable venues for this project.
