PEACE CONVERSATION FACILITATION (PCF) PROGRAM HANDOUT
What is a PEACE CONVERSATION?
1. Structured Discussion where large groups form smaller groups to share views
on difficult subjects- achieving peace through greater understanding.
2. Opportunity to LISTEN & LEARN how others think and feel- embracing our
differences while building fellowship!
3. Conflict Management System: indirectly address points of conflict and
problem-solve in a safe environment.
4. Skill Building: learn and practice communication and listening skills to use at
home and work! Rotarian Facilitators learn by leading conversations.
5. Feedback Mechanism: brainstorm future planning and receive feedback on
past projects through collective wisdom.
KEYS to DEEP LISTENING
1. Suspending Judgement: We don’t need to agree to listen.
2. Let Go of Winning & Losing: Though greater UNDERSTANDING, it is possible
for ALL to win.
3. Listening for what we DON’T know vs. confirmation of what we already do.

4. Separate Person from the Problem: We are NOT our actions, our past or our
mistakes.
5. Bring Service vs. Solution: Listening IS the service vs. waiting to give advice.

ROLES of PEACE CONVERSATION
1. Facilitator: establishes structure and facilitates conversation.
2. Recorder: take notes on what is said and captures core ideas.
3. Time Keeper: maintains agreed upon time limits for speaking.
4. Reporter: reports out what was discussed to large group.
5. Process Observer: observes the group process to provide feedback after
the conversation.

Structured Discussion where large groups form smaller groups to share views on difficult subjects- achieving peace through greater understanding. 2. Opportunity to LISTEN & LEARN how others think and feel- embracing our differences while building fellowship! 3. Conflict Management System: indirectly address points of conflict and problem-solve in a safe environment. 4. Skill Building: learn and practice communication and listening skills to use at home and work! Rotarian Facilitators learn by leading conversations. 5. Feedback Mechanism: brainstorm future planning and receive feedback on past projects through collective wisdom. KEYS to DEEP LISTENING 1. Suspending Judgement: We don’t need to agree to listen. 2. Let Go of Winning & Losing: Though greater UNDERSTANDING, it is possible for ALL to win. 3. Listening for what we DON’T know vs. confirmation of what we already do.
