6. INTRODUCTION
Energy is a key input in economic growth there is a close link between
the availability of energy and the future growth of a nation. However, in
a developing country like Pakistan greater the availability of energy the
more is its shortage.
Energy is consumed in a variety of forms in Pakistan. Fuelwood,
animal waste are traditional sources of energy that continue to meet
the energy requirements in Pakistan. These non-commercial fuels are
gradually getting replaced by commercial fuels such as coal, lignite,
petroleum products, natural gas and electricity.

7. Classification Of Energy Resources
Energy can be classified into several types as follows;
Primary and secondary energy
Renewable and nonrenewable energy
Commercial and non-commercial energy
Conventional and non-conventional energy.

8. Primary and secondary energy:
Primary energy sources are those that are either form or stored in
nature.
Common primary energy sources are
Coal
Oil
Natural gas
Wood
Water
Primary energy sources are costly converted in industrial utilities
into secondary energy sources.

9. Commercial and non-commercial energy:
Commercial energy;
The energy sources that are available in the market for definite prices are
known as commercial energy.
Example:
Electricity
Oil and Natural gas
Non-commercial energy:
The energy sources that are not available in the commercial market for a
price are known as non-commercial energy.
Example:
Fire wood
Agro west in rural area
Solar energy for water heating. 5/13/2017ROOH UL AMIN PIMSAT PAKISTAN 9
12. Renewable and nonrenewable energy:
Renewable energy:
Renewable sources of energy are those natural resources which are inexhaustible and can be used to
produce energy again and again.
Examples:
Solar Energy
Wind Energy
Geothermal Energy
Tidal Energy
Water Energy
Bio Energy.
Non-Renewable Resources of Energy: Those natural resources which are exhaustible and
cannot be replaced once they are used.
Examples:
Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas which together supply 98% of the total world energy demand today,
and likely deplete with the passage of time.

15. Conventional and non-conventional energy:
Conventional:
The energy resources which are being traditionally used for many decades
and were in common used around oil crises of 1973 are called
conventional energy resources.
Non-conventional energy resources:
Which are considered for large scale in oil crises of 1973 are solar, wind &
bio mass.
