3. Introduction
Planning a presentation involves defining the purpose,
analysing the audience, analysing the location and selecting
suitable title
The ability to make effective and memorable oral
presentations is one of the most important qualities you
develop for a successful career.
4. Defining Purpose
• To know purpose the purpose means to be clear about the
reason for doing something. The main purpose of any
presentation is getting the message across the listeners.
• Planning a presentation should start by defining the purpose.
A general purpose as well as specific purpose.

The purpose of your presentation not only decides the
content and style but also affects the amount of audience
interaction.
For instance, when your purpose is to provide information or
to analyse a situation, you and the audience generally interact
in a limited manner.

Your purpose is to persuade people to take a particular action, or to
collaborate with them in solving a problem, or making a decision.
Start your presentation by providing facts and figures that increase
your audience interest.

7. Analysing audience and locale
Audience analysis is an integral part of the process of oral presentation. It
includes identifying audience characteristics, analysing audience needs and
expectations and identifying factors for getting and maintaining audience
attention.
Before presentation it is very necessary to understand the audience and the place
where you are going to present your views. One should understand the audience
properly in order to prepare the message effectively. Understanding audience
includes: to know their level, knowledge, background, culture, expectations etc.

• Another point of discussion is locale. Locale means the place/location
where you are presenting. If you are presenting in foreign country , the
linguistic problems may arise. Even due to different culture the problem
may be arise. It is advisable for the speaker to understand the location.
• To analyse the audience the speaker may answer three questions such
as:-
• WHO
• WHY
• WHERE

The nature of audience has a direct impact on the strategy presenter
plans for presentation. Hence it is necessary to have some prior
knowledge of the audience, and its level and cultural background so that
presentation can be effective and acceptable.
An effective presenter makes sufficient efforts to understand audience.
