Managing your Emotional State
The Triad
Step 1: Write down the words that describe the emotional state you desire (i.e.
confident, excited, passionate, energetic, happy, focused, determined, unstoppable,
etc.).
Physiology Focus/Beliefs Language/Meaning-
Questions and Incantations
Step 2: Identify and
capture the physiology
you would have if you
were in that state (i.e.
how you would stand,
move, breathe, where are
your eyes focused, etc.)?
Step 3: Adopt those
physiological features
now – change how you
are standing, moving, etc.
Step 4: While in the
physiology of Step 3,
identify and write down
what you are focusing on
and any meaning of
events/situations in your life
you would have to have to
feel the emotional state you
desire. In addition, what
are the beliefs you would
have to have in order to
feel that emotional state
more consistently?
Step 5: Brainstorm and
capture what things a person
with that feeling might say.
What questions might they
ask themselves? Ask others?
What expressions would they
use in their answers? How
are those things different from
what you’re consistently
saying to your self or others?
What might happen if you
were to begin changing to the
more positive questions?
Step 6: If you are familiar
with incantations, create one
or more incantations that you
will repeat daily, that generate
the feeling or emotional state
you want. Begin the daily
ritual of repeating that (and
possible other) incantations.
