2. OBJECTIVES
1. Explain the importance of farm
implements in crop production
2. Describe appropriate safety
measures in the use of farm tools and
equipment
3. Discuss procedures in the
maintenance of farm tools and
equipment
3. Equipment
Definition of Terms
This are powered tools machine
used in farming.
Farm Implements
These are accessories pulled by
animals or mounted to machineries
to make the work easier
4. Hand Tools
These are objects that are usually
light and are used without the help
of animals and machineries.
Preventive Maintenance
An activity or operation done to
prevent malfunction of tools and
equipment and it is done to
prolong the useful life of tools and
equipment.
5. Examples of Farm Implements
• Plows. These are farm
implements either pulled by
a working animal or a
tractor. The plow is
specifically used for tilling
large areas, making furrows
and inter row cultivation.
Plows pulled by working
animals are made of either a
combination of metal and
wood or pure metal. They
are used to till areas with a
shallower depth than that of
the disc plows which are
pulled by tractors.
6. • Harrow. The native
wooden harrow is
made of wood with a
metal teeth and
pulled by a carabao
while the disc harrow
is made of metal
mounted to a tractor.
Harrows are used for
tilling and
pulverizing the soil.
7. • Rotavator. The
rotavator is an
implement
mounted to a
tractor used for
tilling and
pulverizing the soil
8. Equipment
• Combine Harvester
Used for cutting,
threshing, cleaning
and loading in. one
operation.
It saves 80-90%
labour requirement
and 33% cost of
operations compared
to traditional method.
9. Paddy Harvester
• Used for
Harvesting and
windrowing of
non-lodging
paddy varieties
and other similar
cereal crops
10. • Farmers and agricultural worker must be
aware of the hazards associated with farm
equipment. By Observing safety
procedures, workers can avoid being
injured.
GENERAL EQUIPMENT SAFETY
• Keeping equipment in good working
conditions is half the formuula for being
safe. The other half is the ability and
awareness of the person operating the
equipment
