Activity 1: Tell Me Your Name, Tell
Me What You Know!
The students tell their name and
share some information or
knowledge that they learned in
English.
The teacher gives a 20 – item
diagnostic test to the students to
assess how far are their learnings
regarding the MELCs for quarter 1.
The teacher asks the students
about the past lesson.
The class recalls the past lesson.
B. Establishing a purpose for the
new lesson
The teacher explain the needed
requirements, the grading system,
the classroom rules and guidelines
and other reminders to the class.
The teacher presents the objective

PROCEDURES A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson Activity 1: Tell Me Your Name, Tell Me What You Know! The students tell their name and share some information or knowledge that they learned in English. The teacher gives a 20 – item diagnostic test to the students to assess how far are their learnings regarding the MELCs for quarter 1. The teacher asks the students about the past lesson. The class recalls the past lesson. B. Establishing a purpose for the new lesson The teacher explain the needed requirements, the grading system, the classroom rules and guidelines and other reminders to the class. The teacher presents the objective for today’s discussion. The teacher gives the objectives for the day. Activity 1: Concept Map, Concept More! By pair, the students complete the concept map given by the teacher as Context Clue as the big concept. The teacher presents the objectives for the day. Activity 1: Read Me Again! The teacher directs the students to the previous text discussed about the Baragatan Festival. The teacher presents the objective for the day. C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson Activity 2: Vacation in Action! The teacher let the students share their experiences during vacation particularly visiting some famous places, attending festivities, and the like in the locality or other places. The students share their answers in the class. Teacher clarifies some mistakes in students’ answers if committed. Activity 2: Answer Me! The students answer the questions given by the teacher about the passage Baragatan festival. D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 A collaborative discussion about the local culture transpires. Students give examples of local culture from different parts of the Philippines. Activity 2: Puzzling Puzzle! The students arrange the jumbled letters flashed on the TV (Types of Context clues) with designated letters. Activity 3 Context Clues Galore! The students read and figure out the meaning of each italicized word using context clues. (pp: 10- 11) E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 Activity 3: Festive Festival! The students read the passage about Baragatan Festival. They identify the Activity 4: Read On! The students read the selections and take note of the culture

Developing mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment 3) Activity 4: Guess Yes or Guess Not! The students identify the presented pictures if these are from the Philippines or not, if not what country do they belong. Activity 3: Be a Matchmaker! The teacher flashes the meaning of the types of context clues, then the students answer it by saying the letter and the word based from activity 2. The students read the excerpt from the story “The Soul of the Great Bell. G. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living The students answer the question “I your own perspective, explain the importance of understanding context clues as a student.” H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson Call some students to share their learned lesson for the day. Some students ask questions to their classmates regarding the topic. I. Evaluating learning Directions: Give five (5) local cultures from the Philippines. Directions: Read and answer the questions below. 1. What is context clue? 2. Enumerate the types of context clue and tell something about it. Directions: Identify the meaning of the underlined words by writing the letter of the correct answer (pp. 18-19). Performance Task 1: Graphic Organizer By group, create a graphic organizer determining the meaning of words and expressions that reflect local culture by using context clues based form the material read (Note you may use “Activity 1: contextualize It” and “Activity 2: My Reflection” on pages 14- 15).
