2. Process
This is what I have designed for the main
enemy type in the game. Originally I had
thought about rival superpowered people
for the main heroes to fight. But in the
end, I decided on ninjas, for ease of
design and to ensure that the fights
would be fairer for the player, as being
overwhelmed by other superpowered
NPC’s would be an issue otherwise.
I designed different sized versions of the
main enemy NPC using the block, pencil
mode of the brush tool on Photoshop. I
employed very basic, mostly symmetrical
designs with a whimsical tone to help give
my game its own identity.
3. Process
I have produced several different
versions of the main heroes; Blaze
Man and Water Woman. Each will
have their own unique powers and
abilities that will come into play for
the puzzles they have to solve. I
designed these characters on
Photoshop with contrasting
colours, in order to make them
more appealing. I think I prefer the
design of Water Woman, which is
more detailed, as well as her
powers being more useful in my
opinion. When the game is made,
the emphasis will be on the polar
opposite superheroes, who must
reluctantly team up to save villain
city.
4. Process
Today I worked on the background and setting of my video game. The game will be set
in a large city at twilight. Most of the action will take place in the streets. I also began
designing a main menu for the game, though I was unable to finish it with the time I
had left. I will pick it up tomorrow if I have the chance. I think the background I have
designed today is some of my better work. I was able to use a lot more detail and
shading techniques than usual. The main menu was difficult, as it was hard to make the
buildings appear both silhouetted and 3D, but I think I did okay.
5. Process
Today I started work on my opening animation.
The main menu is the skyline of the city the game
is set in. The opening features an explosion and an
opening crawl to give the player any story
information they may need.
I’m very happy with the animation I was able to
produce and hope the quality will stay just as good
when I finish the menu screen.
6. Process
Today I finished the animation on my Main
Menu screen and the opening cut scene. I
also began work on my character models and
walking animations. As well as the first part of
stage one. I have a very clear idea now of
what I will create and animate for my game,
as well as what the story will be. I wish I could
have put more details in the character
models, but I will come back and try if I have
the time during the end of production.
I also began working on my video game
soundtrack. I managed to get a good hang of
beep box, so it shouldn’t take me long to
create a workable soundtrack.
All in all, a productive day.
7. Process
Today I completed the opening cut
scene of my game, along with the
dialogue and character model of
Water Woman. This took a while
to animate correctly, but I am
happy with the final results. I also
developed the backdrop for the
first stage, which, when
completed, will be the end of my
demonstration of the game. So
far, I am very happy with the art
style, which is very bright and
colourful, which ties in well to the
superhero source material. Finally,
I developed five original 8-bit
songs for my soundtrack, each to
be played in a different situation
in the game.
8. Process
I continued the animation of my first
level today, I developed a sprite to
be used when Water Woman
activates her powers, in order to
defeat a small group of enemy
Ninjas. as well as some character
models for the enemy Ninjas. While I
was at it, I prepared a character
model for the final boss of the first
Chapter of the game, which is the
chapter I will be depicting in my
video. The project is coming along
well I think.
9. Process
I finished my clip today, and am ready
to do the sound editing. I have
already added most of the music to
the game, but no sound effects yet. In
order to avoid time constraints, I had
to have the main characters defeated
in-game by the boss of Chapter 1.
This was also done to show the
consequences of death. If I manage
some free time later next week, I
might add a little more to the video,
but I’m still very happy with the
current final results, which I think are
well detailed and colourful enough to
work as a serviceable video game.
10. Process
I wrapped up production on my
game today. I’m very proud of
the 8-bit soundtrack, which
includes five original songs, each
fitting with the tone of the
scenes they are used in. I’m also
very proud of the design of the
superheroes, I think they were
original and creative. All in all,
this was a fun, entertaining game
to make and I’m happy with the
final results. Though I wish I’d
had more time to work on the
sound effects, which are lacking
slightly in the final product.
