It started to deal with problems of juvenile delinquency
In India, the first child guidance clinic was started in
1939 at the TATA institute, Mumbai
3. DEFINITION
“Child guidance clinic are specialized of normal and
abnormal intelligence exhibiting a range of behaviours
and psychological problems which are summed up as
maladjustments”
A child guidance clinic is one of the medico-social
amenities for the organised and scientific study and
treatment for maladjustments in children
4. OBJECTIVES
Providing help for children with behavioural problems
like pica, bed-wetting, sleeping walking, speech defects
etc
Providing care and guidance for children with mental
retardation
Providing care for children with learning difficulties
Providing counselling, guidance and information to
parents regarding care and upbringing of children
5. Providing help for children with behavioural problems
include :
- interviewing and interacting with child and parents
- Give appropriate advice and counselling to both child and
parents
- Behaviour modification therapy

mental retardation including :
- Offering counselling to parents about the exact nature of
mental sub normality in their child
- Providing supportive medical and rehabilitative services
- Advice regarding placement in appropriates schools /
