INTRODUCTION
 Under five clinic is a centre, where preventive,
promotive, curative, referral and educational services
are provided in a package manner to under five
children under one roof.
 It is a health clinics created for age group below five
years of age. It is western model of hospital created
for providing care, and immunization to newborn
babies.

GOAL
 To overall goal of under-five clinic is to provide
comprehensive health care to young children in a
specialized facility.

Care in illness:
 Children are treated for acute and chronic illnesses
and ailments of growth and development at these
clinic.
 Nurse can play an important role in taking care of
sick children.
 X Ray and laboratory services
 Referral services

Growth monitoring:
 This is one of the most important function of the clinic.
 The child is weighed periodically-
- every month during the first year,
- every 2 monthly from 1 to 3 years of age
- every 3 monthly in 4th and 5th years.
 Besides weighing, measuring height, mid arm
circumference can also be carried out depending upon
the availability of trained manpower and equipments.
 The growth is plotted in the growth chart then growth
curve is prepared to monitor the growth of the child.

Preventive care:
This includes Timely physical examination of the
children,
 Immunization
 Nutritional care
a) surveillance on food supplementation and sub
clinical nutrition
b) health check ups every 3 to 6 months
c) Manage the growth of nutrition
among newborn and children
a) Oral rehydration therapy

 Family planning :
Family planning is a central to any program directed
towards women and children.
 It educate people on following issues,
Spread the awareness regarding use of contraceptive
or pills
 Health education on family planning, birth spacing
 Psychological support to mothers

Health education:
This clinic is used to educate the mother about

 breast feeding
 nutrition
 growth monitoring
 immunization
 cleanliness etc…

ROLE OF HEALTH CARE PERSONNEL

WELL BABY
CLINIC

DEFINITION
 It is a specialized target oriented health care set up
ie: clinic of under 6 years children within the existing
facilities of PHCC.
 It deals with the total well being of children and
family.
 They provide safety low cost health care.
 It provides promotive, preventive, curative and
rehabilitative health services for children.

AGE GROUP OF CHILDREN
 From one day to below 6 years.
It divided into :
 1- Infancy (up to one year).
 2- Preschool age (1 year to 6 years)

 Child health care is considered one of the most
important elements of primary health care and family
practice.
 Represent large % of population (about 15% of total
population.
 More susceptible to high mortality.
 More vulnerable and needs proper monitoring of growth
and development.

of any preventable and treatable diseases.

SCHEDULES OF WBC VISITS AT PHCC
Well baby care visits should be side by side with
vaccinations schedules with some modifications as
follow:
 First year: 6 visits (after delivery, 2 months, 4
months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months).
 After one year: 7 visits ( 1.5 year, 2 years, 2.5 years, 3
years, 3.5 years, 4 years and 4.5 years)
