Body Mechanics:
 It is the utilization of correct muscles to complete a task
safely and efficiently, without undue strain on any muscle or
joint.
 Purposes of body Mechanics:
1. Proper body alignment and posture prevent fatigue and
deformities.
2. Good posture promotes normal physiological functions of
the body. It aids in circulation and digestion.
3. It helps to maintain the balance of the body without undue
strains on the body parts.
4. It contributes to ones beauty.
5. Good posture prevents the development of kyphosis,
lordosis, scoliosis etc.
Principles of Body mechanics:
1. Maintain good posture in all activity by avoiding
twisting the body, turn your whole body, face the
area in which you are working.
2. It is easier to slide, pull or roll an object than to lift
it. It helps to reduce the energy needed to raise the
weight.
3. Movement should be smooth and co-ordinated
rather than jerking to prevent injury.
4. Use strongest and longest muscle to perform tasks
which require physical effort.
5. Keep the object as close as possible to your body
when lifting, moving or carrying them.
6. Keep the work at a comfortable height to avoid
excessive bending at the waist.

7. Keep your body in good physical condition
to reduce the chance of injury.
8. Place the feet apart to provide a wide base
of support and better balance.
9. Get help if the object feels too heavy to lift.
10. Flex the joint(knees and hips) to close to
the object instead of bending back.
11. Keep work close to the body.
12. Use the weight of the body to pull or push
an object by keeping the body above the
object.
