3. INTRODUCTION
The child health nurse has the responsibility to
provide high quality care no matter the setting nor
the role practiced.
Setting where the child health nurse are involved in
caring for the infants,toddlers, preschool children,
school children, adolescent.
Inspite of best preventivw and promotive health
care,nurses role in hospital care is an important role
to maintain the physiological , psychology ,and
emotional state of child .
4. DEFINITION
The nurse who taking care of neonates,
infants,toddlers and pre-school children in
hospital.
Child health care nurse provide preventive,
promotive,curative and rehabilitation care in
hospital with all health services.
5. QUALITIES OF NURSE
Paediatric nurse should have all desirable and
preferable qualities of a professional nurse.
She should be a loving person and have liking for the
children.
She should have patience and ability to understand
the child’s behaviour.
She should be able to maintain good interpersonal
relationship and to provide safety and security to the
children.
She should be friendly honest and gentle .
She should be caring sympathetic respectful.
She should be sensitive flexible.
She should have critical thinking skills.
She should be fun loving and positive.
She should have attention to the details.
6. PREPARATION OF HOSPITAL
ENVIRONMENT FOR THE CHILD
Hospitalization as a traumatic for the child but it
can be made comfortable.
Nurse warm approach and their concern can help
the child and his family to cope up with
hospitalization in a positive way.
The child should be made familiar with the
equipments around him and their sounds.
Parents should be allowed to stay with the child.
Child and his family should be acquainted with the
board and the places there may be required to go
during hospital stay.
Parents should be come and involved in the care
of child.
7. MEASURES TO MAKE HOSPITAL
ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY FOR
CHILDREN
Assess the safety to toys. Toys should be
appropriate to the child age condition
and treatment.
Setting limits is essential and children
should know where they are permitted to
go and what they are supposed to do.
Ensure safe transportation for children
within or outside the unit in hospital.

Preserving the toddlers trust in parents.
Help the child to express his or her emotions .
Encouraging frequent visits of parents so that
child is not deprived of parental love.
Nurse should give the child a sense of security to
the hospital.

when doing any care.

active part in their treatment and self care.
Nurse should allowed the child to express

Nurse should understand the emotional impact
of illness on them.
Nurse should routinely communicate with them
to make them comfortable in the new
environment.

and care to the client.

Nurses should maintain good interpersonal
relationship with the client so that he she feels

independence.

injury, separation from family, painful
procedures as evidenced by crying,
withdrawal or resistance.

control over procedure, care and changes
in usual routine.
Deficient diversional activity related to
