5 Leadership and commitment
 Top management shall demonstrate leadership and commitment w

• Taking accountability
• Establishing the environmental policy
• Ensuring environmental policy and objectives are
established and are compatible with strategic direction and
the context of organization
• Ensuring integration of EMS and other business processes
• Promoting use of process approach and risk based thinking

• Communicating the importance of an effective EMS
• Ensuring EMS achieves intended outcomes
• Promoting continual improvement
• Supporting other relevant management roles to
demonstrates their leadership as its applies to their areas of
responsibility.

5.2 Policy - Environmental Policy
 Top management shall establish, implement and maintain a
Environmental policy that:
a) Is appropriate to the purpose and context of the organization
including nature , scale and environmental impacts of its activities ,
products and services
b) Provides a framework for setting environmental objectives
c) Includes a commitment to satisfy applicable requirements
d) Includes a commitment to protection of environment including
prevention of pollution and other specific commitment (s) relevant to
the content of the organization
e) Includes commitment to fulfil compliance obligations
f) Includes commitment to continual improvement of EMS to enhance
environmental performance

Top management ensure responsibilities and authorities for
relevant roles are assigned, communicated and understood.

a) ensuring that the EMS conforms to the requirements of this
International Standard;
b) reporting on the performance of the EMS and on opportunities
for improvement, in particular to top management;

c) The scope of its EMS
Determine the risk and opportunities, related to environmental
aspects, compliance obligation and other issues and requirements
, identified in the context and interested party needs
expectations that need to be addressed to:

 Give assurance that EMS can achieve its intended outcomes
 Prevent or reduce undesired effects including the potential for
external environmental condition to affect organization
 Achieve continual improvement

c) be monitored;
d) communicated;
e) updated as appropriate.

6.2.2 Determine:
a) what will be done;
b) what resources will be required;
c) who will be responsible;
d) when it will be completed;
e) how the results will be evaluated including indicators for monitoring
progress towards achievement of its environmental objectives
Consider how actions to achieve its environmental objectives can be
integrated into the business processes
