2. 1st Idea
• ‘TELL US ABOUT…’ montage of people’s reactions about someone
• Each doing different things to add excitement/movement to the
opening, e.g. The sweetest thing and mean girls
• Different ideas/reactions from people
• Comedy from different reactions/people – crying/nose bleed etc.
• Pans around girl (main character) who is talking angrily to friends,
who are in front of her about, about someone. As the camera pans it
shows a man stood behind/walking up behind the girl who is still
ranting. The friends look up ‘He’s right behind me isn’t he?’ She
turns round, smiles and has food on her tooth
• Camera freezes - goes into voice over ‘Yep this is me...'
3. 2nd Idea
• Two people on the phone (male and female) - split
screen/quick cuts. The conversation – about a blind date -
works between the two people however they aren’t
actually on the phone to each other. The scene is fast
paced (walking around/going somewhere) they bump
into each other (spills coffee?) – That point the audience
discovers they aren’t on the phone to each other and
they are just strangers, as they walk away from each
other, the gap between them is filled with the film title.
• Introduces the two protagonists, their personality’s and
the fact that they are strangers. Sets up the storyline of
the blind date.
4. 2nd Idea Continued
• Split screen – titles in one then shots in the other,
audience drawn to the action rather than text. Keep
moving around the half with action in to keep it dynamic.
OR use split screen for a phone call between 2 characters
EG FWB.
• Introducing 2 people at the same time – opposites
(Freaky Friday)
• Or two strangers but in a similar situation
• Music is important to capture the mood and genre of the
film
5. Before Phone Call Options
• ‘Tell us about…’
• Diary/voiceover of the girl
• Flash back of previous blind date
6. 3rd Idea
• ‘Tell us about…’
• Then it goes to a shot of the back of the guys head
and shoulders walking down a street in a suit, with
a voiceover.
• Could introduce the female and male at the same
time, opposites who are being set up on a blind
date.
7. 4th Idea
• Back shot of the male character walking down a street
or school corridor. Greeting various people (smiling,
pointing, saluting, high fiving)
• Shows he is important/well known.
• Voiceover of him introducing himself?
• Could be a split screen of the girl walking shot in the
same way and her voiceover. She is quiet/geek like.
Work with cliques if in a school?
• Eventually end up walking towards each other/bumping
into each other – first encounter
• As they walk away, the titles appear between them, like
my 2nd Idea
8. 4th Idea: Initial thoughts of characters
BOY:
• Popular
• Well dressed
• Path is cleared for him, people move
out of his way
• Intimidating to some
• Music is jazz like – chilled, slow
paced. Representing his mood.
GIRL:
• Unpopular
• Geek like – glasses etc
• Carrying books and a ruck sack
• Walking with head down, people
getting in her way, pushed around
• Music is suited to her situation – fast
paced, uncomfortable
