2. Music Video Idea 1
• My first video idea is based around the idea of adolescence and ‘coming of age’. It will center
around a group of friends who are just sat around, talking and laughing. One of them receives a text
inviting them to a party and they show it to the rest of the group. They all agree to go and we can
see them getting excited. The camera then follows them around town, showing clips of them looking
for outfits and buying drinks. We then see the group getting ready together – doing their make up
and hair. It then cuts to them walking up to a house and being greeted by their friend at the door.
The rest of the video shows the party progressing throughout the night – for example, the group
taking shots or playing games. The video finishes with them collapsing onto a bed together
laughing, signaling that the party was over. This plot would be an amplification of the song as it
follows the themes of partying and living life with no regrets, but does not completely follow the lyrics
of the song.
• Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E79WQnDAXVc Catfish and the Bottlemen – Twice
• Settings: college common room, town center (in and out of shops), bedroom, house party.
• Characters: group of girls – all with their own style. In the beginning of the video they are dressed
simple as they are at college but at the party they are dressed up.
• Mise-en-Scene: clothes, make-up, bottles of drink, cups, cards.
3. Music Video Idea 2
• This music video would focus on the themes of the end of a relationship and getting over a break
up. The video will start with a girl sat on the floor of her bedroom with her back to the door. She has
a photograph in her hands of her and a boy – we see a close up of this. We see her looking sad as
she picks up her phone and unlocks it to find no notifications. She starts to scroll through their old
texts and we see her begin to cry. The girl stands up and starts to pace her room, running her hands
through her hair. On her dressing table is a framed photo of her and her ex-boyfriend. Picking it up,
she stares at it for a second before throwing it at a wall. We see her pick up her phone and call
someone before throwing her phone onto the bed and starting to go through her wardrobe and
drawers, collecting items and throwing them onto the bed. There is a cut to her opening the door
and we see a friend walk in, giving her a hug. They run back into the room and collect the things,
throwing them into black bags before leaving the house again. We see them gathering wood in a
forest before making their way into a clearing and starting a bonfire. They start throwing all of the
things onto the fire, and the video finishes with a close up of the girl smiling into the fire.
• Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc-nyGo0aC8 Clean Bandit ft. Louisa Johnson - Tears
• Settings: bedroom, woods.
• Characters: two girls (one main character, one friend), both dressed in simple clothes and one boy –
only seen in photographs.
• Mise-en-Scene: phone, dressing table, photographs, clothes, wood, fire.
4. Music Video Idea 3
• This music video will focus on the love story of two people. The first clip will be the couple in present
day, sitting together on a sofa, holding hands whilst looking at each other. The video will then
flashback to the day that the couple met. It will show the girl sat with her friends in her college
common room and will show her look up and make eye contact with a boy who walks into the room
with his friends. The girls friends leave the room and she says goodbye as she stays, pulling out a
textbook and beginning to write notes. Whilst sitting there, the boy she saw walks over and sits with
her as they begin talking. The next scene shows her walking into college in the morning. She has
her head down and so bumps into someone – it’s the boy. As she realises its him, she laughs and
hugs him, starting a conversation as they walk into the building together. The next clip shows the
two groups of friends together. The boy pulls the girl aside and asks her a question (he is asking her
on a date). She smiles and nods, agreeing to the date. The rest of the video will be more flashbacks,
leading up to the present and the last clip will be the same as the first so we know we are up to date.
• Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSsMhQv6KZ8 Beyonce – Blue
• Settings: living room, college, town centre.
• Characters: group of girls (three or four), all dressed casually and again but boys.
• Mise-en-Scene: sofa, seats, textbook, phone.
5. Why am I choosing a music video?
• I am choosing to make a music video for my project as I like the idea of creating a short story
alongside the music. It gives me the freedom of creating a concept and plot but gives me a guide as
I want my music video to be an amplification of the song I have chosen. I also feel as though
creating a music video will allow me to explore camera techniques and editing skills that I have not
used before. For example, I will keep the cuts of the scene in time to the beat of the music. Another
way I will be able to explore techniques unique to a music video is that I may chose to use lip
synching in my video and so this will give me a change to experience how to match up the persons
singing perfectly. I feel as though the music video is the most interesting choice of moving image to
make as I enjoy listening to music in my spare time and so this project will be one I can be
passionate about.
6. Advert Idea 1
• The first idea I have for an advert is for a pair of shoes/trainers. The advert starts with a person
rushing around to get dressed in the morning – they are running late for work. Whilst brushing their
teeth, they run to their shoes to put them on. They stop and the camera switches between shots of
the persons work shoes and a pair of trainers. The scene switches to the persons workplace and we
see them running through the door. Their coworker looks at them, looks to their watch and then back
to the main character and says “you’re early!” The camera shows a mid-close up of the main
character, which then pans down to show their work shoes in their hands and their trainers on their
feet.
7. Advert Idea 2
• The next advert idea is for a matte liquid lipstick. The advert will show a split screen of one girl
applying a normal lipstick, and on the other screen a girl who is applying the liquid lipstick. It shows
the two people at different points of the day. For example, one shot will show both of the girls eating
a sandwich at lunchtime. Another example is both girls drinking from a coffee cup, the girl with the
normal lipstick leaves a mark on the cup whereas the other girl doesn’t. The advert ends with the
girls looking in the mirror – the girl with the normal lipstick looks at her lipstick disappointed whereas
the other girl holds the tube, smirking at herself.
8. Advert Idea 3
• My final idea is for a set of hair straighteners. The advert will show a girl sitting at dressing table
(looking into the camera as if that’s the mirror). Her hair will be extremely frizzy for comical effect as
she pulls at it, not knowing what to do. The advert shows quick cuts of different hairstyles before
showing her banging her head on the table in frustration. She will then look up to see a pair of hair
straighteners magically appear on the table. The scene will then cut to a party, where she walks in
with perfectly sleek and straight hair.
9. Why I Decided Against an Advert
• I felt as though an advert would limit my creativity and freedom when coming up with an idea as the
main reason to create an advert is to showcase the item and so the main focus has to be on that.
This is unlike the music video where I could take influence from the song and put my own twist on it.
I also feel as though I will not be able to expand upon and explore any skills or techniques as
adverts tend to be short and so I will not have enough time to try out new techniques. The amount of
time given for an advert also means that I would be limited with how much I could include as I would
need to focus on getting the product clearly advertised rather than creating an interesting plot.
10. Movie Trailer Idea 1 (Teen Drama)
• The trailer begins by following a group of pretty, popular girls walking down the corridor with people
looking at them. The camera stops moving a few seconds in and lets them walk by, revealing a girl
who is dressed very casually roll her eyes at them. The trailer shows funny clips of the girl with her
friends in school and at home, awkward clips of embarrassing moments and clips or her with her
romantic interest. Over the whole trailer, we hear the girl speaking along with some upbeat music.
This will help convey the genre of a teen drama.
11. Movie Trailer Idea 2 (Horror)
• The trailer begins with a shot of a forest. This fades out and fades back into a shot of an abandoned
house within the forest. Again, this fades out and into a shot within the house. We see that it is
empty apart from a couple of chairs and a table. It looks extremely run down. The next fade shows a
bathroom. At this point, we hear crying. The scene fades into a clip showing a door. This quickly
changes to a close up of a woman. She looks distressed and is crying. She whispers “help me”
before the screen turns black and we hear a scream. This is when the title shows on the screen.
12. Movie Trailer Idea 3 (Action)
This trailer will be centered around the plot of someone being kidnapped. It will start with a group of
friends sitting together in a bedroom, drinking and laughing. This false beginning will make it seem as
though it is a trailer for a fun and upbeat film. This scene will switch to night and show the friends
asleep. One of them wakes up and looks around. Frowning, she gets up and walks around the house.
When she gets to the last room, she panics and runs upstairs, waking her friends and telling them that
one of them is missing. The rest of the trailer shows them racing against the clock in the night to find
their friend before morning when their parents would find out.
13. Why I Decided Against a Movie Trailer
• I have decided against creating a movie trailer as I felt as though the short amount of time given for
a trailer would not allow me to clearly portray a narrative. This is because it is an extremely
condensed version of the film itself and so you have to try and include all key points of the film in
that time frame in a way that makes sense. Another reason for not choosing to do a movie trailer is
because I have already worked with creating a movie during the course and so I felt as though I
wanted to work with a different type of media.
