5. The Vyapam scam involved collusion among exam
candidates, government officials and middlemen:
undeserving candidates were offered high marks
in the exams, in exchange for kickbacks.
The photograph on the candidate's admit card
was replaced by the impersonator's photograph.
Undeserving candidates bribed the board officials
through middlemen to be seated strategically
next to a brilliant dummy candidate, who was
also paid money
6. The corrupt board officials would manipulate records to
give these candidates randomly high percentages.
To avoid being caught in case of an audit, they would file
an RTI request demanding to view these answer sheets,
and fill in the answers according to the marks.
The corrupt board officials leaked the answer key to the
selected candidates.
7. Shailesh Yadav
He was found dead at his home in Lucknow in March. He was accused
of taking money to help candidates from Bhind clear the exam for
contractual teachers.
D.K. Sakalley
He was the Dean of Jabalpur Medical College. He was also allegedly
linked to the scam; he died of burns under suspicious circumstances.
Akshay Singh
He worked for TV Today group, died soon after interviewing parents
of a girl who was an accused and had herself died in suspicious
circumstances.
Arun Sharma
He was also the Dean of the Jabalpur-based College. He was probing
fake examinees in the Scam. He was found dead in a hotel in Delhi.

9. . During 2009-11, a committee established by the state government and headed by the
State Joint Director of Medical Education, probed the irregularities in the PMT exam.
the state government formed a Special Task Force (STF) of the police on 26 August
2013, to investigate the scam.
Indian National Congress party, demanded a CBI probe in the scam under the
supervision of the Supreme Court of India.
On November 5, 2014, Madhya Pradesh High Court also rejected the Congress leader
Digvijay Singh's petition for CBI probe and instead ordered setting up of a special
investigation team (SIT) to act as a watchdog for the court.
On 7 July 2015, after controversy about increasing number of allegedly suspicious
deaths, Chouhan informed media that he will write to High Court of Madhya Pradesh
requesting to order a CBI probe into the scam.
The opposition National Congress Party requested for resignation of Chouhan to allow
fair probe into the scam.
However who will monitor the investigation process was not announced
10. The STF also found evidence against the state Governor
RAM Naresh Yadav.
His son Shailesh was an accused in the contractual
teachers' recruitment and later found dead in mysterious
circumstances in March, 2015.
The SIT chief declared that the investigators will act
against Yadav after his retirement in September 2016.
In 2014, Prashant Pandey (aka "Mr. X"), an IT consultant
hired by the STF, was arrested for trying to use the
team's information to blackmail the Vyapam accused.
Pandey then approached the Indian National Congress
leader Digvijaya Singh, and claimed that he was a
whistleblower who was being harassed for exposing the
role of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the scam.

11. A bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu asked the premier investigative
agency to take over all Vyapam cases from the Special Task Force of the MP
police by Monday and submit to it a report on July 24, when the court will take
a call on monitoring the investigation, as sought by the petitioners.
"We appreciate the stand of the AG. In view of the above we transfer
investigation of all criminal cases relating to the Vyapam scam and death of
people allegedly related to it, to the CBI," the bench, also comprising Justices
Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy, said. The Congress had claimed on Wednesday
that 49 people connected to the scam had lost their lives so far. The Supreme
Court, while issuing notices relating to the governor that are returnable after
four weeks, refrained from making any remarks on him when Kapil Sibal,
appearing on behalf of Digvijay Singh demanded that Yadav demit office to
maintain its dignity. "We are not going to say anything on it," it said.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed the Supreme Court decision
for a CBI probe into Vyapam scam and deaths allegedly linked with the case,
claiming it was always for it, and said Congress should now stop doing politics
over the issue.
12. A report by the high court-appointed special investigation team

Board) scam revealed that another 32 people, all aged between 25
and 30, have died under suspicious circumstances since the probe
began in 2012, according to a report by the Times of India.

Namrata Damor, Dr. DK Sakalley, Ramendra Singh Bhadoria,
Narendra Singh Tomar, Dr. Rajendra Arya.
13. In November 2013, the STF found that the scamsters had
rigged five recruitment tests: Pre-PG, Food Inspector Selection
Test, Milk Federation test, Subedar-Sub Inspector and Platoon
Commander Selection Test and Police Constable Recruitment
Test.
On 29 April 2014, 27 students of MGM Medical College in
Indore were expelled for having used fraudulent means to clear
PMT-2012.
In September 2014, the STF revealed that Jagdish Sagar's
racket had also rigged the entrance exams for recruitment in SBI
and other nationalized banks. These entrance exams included
the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection's exams and the SBI
Probationary Officer's exam.
14. The mysterious deaths of people linked to Vyapam
scam triggered dark humour on various social media
platforms across India. People compared it to fictional
serial killer Dexter and termed it as India's version of
Game of Thrones.
Due to untimely and sudden death of a journalist who
died soon after interviewing the family members of
another dead accused, people termed it as inauspicious.
An online perception was created that any sort of link to
the scam could bring trouble or even mysterious death.
