2. The last few decades of the 20th century have witnessed a
growing awareness of not only the severity but also the
diversity of environmental problems.
Managing environmental responsibilities has become an
integral part of doing business in the global economy. Poor
environmental performance can damage a company’s
public image, prevent it from achieving its strategic goals
and diminish its financial performance.
In a developing country such as India, environmental reporting
is all the more essential as it will make the politicians,
economists, technologists, sociologists and company
managers aware of the limitations of growth as well as the
suitable course of growth without damaging the environment.
3. As a result of the growing attention and importance generated
by Environmental Reporting at academic level during the past
several decades, this study offers a Bibliometric analysis of
research in the area of environmental reporting. This will allow
us to answer the following questions:
What are the main countries, authors and universities in the
field of environmental reporting?
Which is the main subject area for the field environmental
reporting?
In which year there is maximum number of publications for
environmental reporting?
4. Environmental reporting is the communication
of environmental performance information by an organisation
to its stakeholders.
Information on environmental performance includes among
others:
Impacts on the environment,
Performance in managing those impacts, and
Contribution to ecological and sustainable development.
Nowadays, such information is becoming increasingly
important to satisfy the expectations of stakeholders groups
like: employees, shareholders, the public/ regulators,
contractors, suppliers and other interested parties who have
varying objectives and expectations.
5. Bibliometric Analysis is the statistical method
to analyse research literature such as books,
articles, journals or any other publications.
It is a statistical tool which shows
quantitatively the analysis of written
publications.
It helps to study the pattern and trends of
authorship, publications and literature use.
6. To select articles for this research paper the Scopus database is
applied.
The Sciverse Scopus was launched in November 2004 by Elsevier
and comprised over 69 million records from about 22000 peer-
reviewed journals.
It performs such features as search by documents, authors, affiliation,
advanced search and refine results by source type, year, language,
author, affiliation and more.
It uses various tools and quality measures such as tracking citations
over time for a set of authors or documents, viewing the H- Index for
specific authors, gaining insight into journal performance with
Citescore, SNIP and SJR, visualisation of data exporting MS Excel.
7. After the selection of database, searching step was
conducted.
In Scopus, the search was done by a query
“Environmental Reporting in India” in title, abstract or
keywords of articles.
Further, some limitations were set up, such as publication
year from 2009 to 2019, and language was set as –
‘English’ resulting in 156 articles.
