This document describes a mini project on a GSM based home automation system. The key components of the system include an Arduino Uno, GSM module, relay, LCD display, and mobile phone. The system allows users to remotely switch household appliances on and off using the GSM module and Arduino. It provides a low cost and reliable way to automate and control appliances in the home from a mobile phone.

4. INTRODUCTION
• Aim of the project
The main objective of the project is to design construct a home automation
system that will remotely switch on or off any household connected to it, using
GSM module
• Objective of the project
The objective of this project is to implement a low cost, reliable and scalable
home automation system that can be used to remotely switch on or off any house
hold appliances, using a GSM module and Arduino
5. COMPONENTS REQUIRED :
• POWER SUPPLY
• ARDUINO UNO
• GSM MODULE
• RELAY
• LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY
• MOBILE PHONE
6. RELAY :
The relay is the device that open or closes
the contacts to cause the operation of the
other electric control. It detects the
intolerable or undesirable condition with an
assigned area and gives the commands to the
circuit breaker to disconnect the affected
area. Thus, protects the system from
damage.
Working Principle of Relay
It works on the principle of an
electromagnetic attraction. When the circuit
of the relay senses the fault current, it
energises the electromagnetic field which
produces the temporary magnetic field
The small power relay has only one contacts,
and the high-power relay has two contacts
for opening the switch.
8. ARDUINO :
Arduino is an open-source electronics
platform based on easy-to-use hardware and
software. Arduino boards are able to read
inputs - light on a sensor, a finger on a
button, or a Twitter message - and turn it
into an output - activating a motor, turning
on an LED, publishing something online. You
can tell your board what to do by sending a
set of instructions to the microcontroller on
the board. To do so you use the Arduino
programming language (based on Wiring),
and the Arduino Software (IDE), based
on Processing.

10. GSM MODULE :
GSM is a mobile communication modem; it is
stands for global system for mobile communication
(GSM). The idea of GSM was developed at Bell
Laboratories in 1970. It is widely used mobile
communication system in the world. GSM is an
open and digital cellular technology used for
transmitting mobile voice and data services
operates at the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and
1900MHz frequency bands.
GSM system was developed as a digital system
using time division multiple access (TDMA)
technique for communication purpose. A GSM
digitizes and reduces the data, then sends it down
through a channel with two different streams of
client data, each in its own particular time slot.
The digital system has an ability to carry 64 kbps
to 120 Mbps of data rates.

12. LCD :
A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat
display device made up of any number of
color or monochrome pixels arrayed in front
of a light source or reflector. Each pixel
consists of a column of liquid crystal
molecules suspended between two
transparent electrodes, and two polarizing
filters, the axes of polarity of which are
perpendicular to each other. Without the
liquid crystals between them, light passing
through one would be blocked by the other.
The liquid crystal twists the polarization of
light entering one filter to allow it to pass
through the other. Many microcontroller
devices use 'smart LCD' displays to output
visual information.
15. MEMS SENSOR : ( MICRO ELECTRO MECHANICAL SYSTEMS)
MEMS is a technique of combining electrical and mechanical components
together on a chip, to produce a system of miniature dimensions
16. GSM MODULE :
• The gsm network is used to provide communication from one place to
other
• The GSM module using consist of a mobile station and SIM
17. GPS MODULE :
• The GPS module proGin SR-87 series is used
• High performance receiver tracks up to 20 satellites
19. LCD : (LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY)
• In this project, the LCD is used to display the status and position of
the vehicle
• The number to which the position of the vehicle is to be delivered,
also displays on the LCD such that the changes can be made if
necessary
21. ADVANTAGES :
• The vehicle which has underdone to an accident can be
identified by using tracking technology without any delay
• The immediate action will be provided to the accident victims
in the remote areas
DISADVANTAGES :
• In some places where there is no provision of GSM network it is
difficult for communication
22. FUTURE SCOPE :
• This system can be interfaced with vehicle airbag system that
prevents vehicle occupants from striking interior objects such as the
steering wheel or window
• This can also be developed by interconnecting a camera to the
controller module that takes the photograph of the accident spot that
makes the tracking easier
23. CONCLUSION :
• To minimise the deaths and the server conditions due to accidents the
GPS and GSM technologies are used where immediate action would be
take place by ambulance/police services which might reduces the
severity
