➢ An explosive is a reactive substance that contains
huge amount of potential energy which can induce
an explosion if swiftly released.
➢ It is usually accompanied by the production of
light, sound,heat and pressure.
➢ There are three types of explosives : Mechanical,
Nuclear, and Chemical.

❖ The Explosives Substances Act was titled Act no.6 of 1908.
❖ It was enacted on 8th June,1908.

6. DEFINITION
The utterance “explosive substance” is obliged to include any
materials for the making of any explosive substance; as well as
any apparatus, machinery, implement or material used, or to be
used, or that are adapted for aiding in causing any explosion
with any explosive substance also any part of any such
instrument, machinery or implements is defined as explosive
substances act.
7. PUNISHMENTS
1. Punishment for causing an explosion that is likely to
endanger life or property, whether any harm to person
or property has been actually caused or not, shall be
punished with imprisonment for life, or with rigorous
imprisonment which shall not be less than ten years,
and shall also be liable to fine.

making or keeping any explosive substances, with the
intent to endanger lives or property, is punished with
imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a
term which may extend upto to ten years, and shall

suspicious circumstances as to giving rise to a reasonable
suspicion that he/she is not making it or does not have it in his
possession or under his/her control for a lawful object, shall, be

which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
➢ In the case of any special category explosive substance:
rigorous imprisonment for life, or with rigorous imprisonment
for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be
liable to fine.

4. Punishment of abettors states that any person who by
the supply of or desire for money,is providing
premises, supplying materials, or whatsoever,
acquires, counsels,aids,or is an accessory to the
commission of any offence under this Act and shall be
punished with the punishment for the offence for a
term extending upto ten years and shall be fined.

5. Restriction on trial of offences states that no
Court shall proceed to the trial of a person
for an offence against this Act without the
consent of the District Magistrate.
