2. Fiber reinforced concrete

 In RCC Structures Dead load(Self weight) is more than
live load .The self weight of reinforced concrete is
2500 kg/m3
 The concrete is said to be Light weight the unit weight
ranges B/W 1000kg/m3 -1800 kg/m3
 In high-rise structures (more than 3 floor) cost of
substructure (foundation ) increases due to more self
weight
 We can use coconut husk to make light weight
concrete

6. Light weight building blocks
 Hollow blocks and solid blocks can be
manufactured by coir husk ,coir fiber and cement
mortar
 The blocks are light in weight and has good
thermal insulation properties
 It can be used to construct walls in framed structures
,it cannot be used as load bearing blocks

8. Partition panels and Doors
 Panel boards made from coconut husk-
adhesives –and laminated sheets may be
used as doors and windows

purpose of partitions in buildings

10. Roofing sheets and pipes (alternate
to asbestos)
 Asbestos sheets and GI sheets are most commonly
used for the purpose of roofing

coir fibers

12. Eco friendly Tiles (floor and wall)
 Tiles can be made from coconut husk-non woven
fibers-ceramic clay.
 The tiles can be used for flooring ,cladding and
weathering purposes
 The tiles are suitable for any climatic conditions, the
tiles are warmer in wet climates and cooler in dry
climates

14. Insulation panels (false ceiling)
 Gypsum boards and puff panels are most commonly
used for insulation purposes and air conditioning
 The thermal conductivity of coco husk boards and
panels are comparitively good than conventional
materials
 The coco husk boards may be used for false ceiling
purposes in buildings as well as industries

 Coir geotextiles can be used in place of synthetic geo
textiles for all the purposes
 Woven geo nets ,woven geo textiles are used for soil
stabilization and soil retaining purposes
 The argumental factor is durability of coir fibers, to
overcome this coated coir geotextiles may be used
 Coir geo nets and geo membaranes may be used in
soils having low CBR
 A layer of geo nets can avoid uneven settlement ,pot
holes and cracks in flexible pavements (bituminous
roads)

18. Soil stabilization and erosion
control
 Non woven geo textiles can be used for stabilization of
soils having low bearing capacity
 To increase the bearing capacity of soil woven and non
woven geotextiles are filled in layers to increase
bearing capacity
 The woven geo textiles can be used for erosion control
in rivers and canals

20. Conclusion
 Coir products are eco friendly building
materials
 Durability of coir products is the main issue
as a buiding material ,to overcome this
proper research works should be done
 Both wooven and non woven geo textiles are
very useful in civil engineering and
prefabrication works
