This Presentation talks about a Project Management Technique called as Line of Balance Technique which was developed by US Navy.
and the organizational structure of AFCONS Infrastructure Limited.
4. โ One of the PM Tool.
โ A line of balance diagram comprises a series of inclined lines.
โ The LineโofโBalance also known as the Repetitive SchedulingMethod
(RSM), Location Based Scheduling, Vertical Production Method or
Vertical Scheduling Method.
โ It's the best planning method for a repetitive work such as Villas or
Dwelling units, High-rise building, highways, pipeline, tunnels, railway,
however it may be adapted for non-repetitive projects as well.
โ The purpose of the LOB method is to ensure that the many activities
of a repetitive production process stay โin balanceโ that is, they are
producing at a pace which allows an even flow of the items produced
through a process and at a speed compatible with the goals set forth in
a plan.
LINE OF BALANCE TECHNIQUE
Introduction
5. โ Originated by the Goodyear Company in the early 1940โs.
โ Developed by the U.S. Navy in the early 1950โs.
โ The literature indicates that linear scheduling methods
could be used in projects such as multiple housing schemes,
bridge, high-rise and low-rise buildings, pipelines and
highway constructions.
โ The most famous application being the construction of the
Empire State Building, the rate of construction peaked at four
and a half floors per week.
LINE OF BALANCE TECHNIQUE
History
6. โ Rate of Production
โ Number of Resources
โ Duration of activity in one unit
LINE OF BALANCE TECHNIQUE
Methodology
Fig (a). Number of crew used = 1
actual rate of production = 1
units/day
Fig (b). Number of crew used = 2
actual rate of production = 2
units/day
7. โ Comparing actual progress with a formal objective plan.
โ Examining only the deviations from established plans,
and gauging their degree of severity with respect to the
remainder of the project.
โReceiving timely information concerning trouble areas
and indicating areas where appropriate corrective action is
required.
โForecasting future performance.
LINE OF BALANCE TECHNIQUE
Application
8. LINE OF BALANCE TECHNIQUE
Advantages
๏ผ Amount of work at specific
time
๏ผ Ability to show and optimize
the Time, Cost and
Resources.
๏ผ Ease of setup and its superior
presentation and visualization
๏ผ Easier to modifications
possible
๏ผ Better Management
๏ผ Visualization of productivity
and location of crews.
Disadvantages
๏ป Inability to generate a clear
critical path
๏ป Could only be divided by
location.
๏ป Productivity rates in LOB
schedule do not include the
effect of crews learning curve
