2. The Pamban Bridge (Road connect and the
Railway connect) Stands as a monstrous
structure over the Indian Ocean, parallel to each
other between the shores of Mandapam and
pamban (the beginning stage of Rameshwaram
island).
3. PAMBAN BRIDGE
.
The railway bridge is 2,065 m long.
It was opened on 24 February 1914.
It has a double leaf bascule section
midway, which can be raised to let
ships and barges pass through.
PAMBAN BRIDGE
It was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India
until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010.
The length of the double leaf bascule section is 289 ft.
4. OBJECTIVE:
To connect two towns of Rameswaram on Pamban
Island.
Plans for a bridge to connect to mainland was
suggested in 1870 as the British Administration
sought ways to increase trade with Ceylon.
5. CONVERTIBLE BRIDGE
It is a type of bridge which can be
used to move passage via bridge as
well as water.
it is generally powered by electric motors,
or hydraulic piston or gearing system.
Sometimes, when a long bridge required,
we provide a certain amount as movable at
the mid of the bridge to allow the ships to
pas through it.
6. Some movable bridge may be enabled by
engine some might not be, some may be
manually operated, some can be operated by
remote and some can be operated
automatically by using MOTION SENSORS.
It all depends on the length of the bridge and
location of the bridge.
7. PROJECT DETAILS:
We are working on Pamban convertiable bridge.
We are using motion sensor and proximity
sensor to sense coming ships and trains on
the track and sea respectively.
They are so provided in such a way that
whenever a boat or ship came into the radius of
that sensor it will automatically turn Red signal for
train and the relay will send the information to the
control room from where the person will clear the
rail track and will send command for opening the
bridge. After passing of the ship the Proximity
sensor will send the information for closing the
Bridge and thus turning green signal for train and
red for ships.
8. •Pamban connect built in 1911
•Total length of the scaffold is 2.057 km.
•It has 145 ranges of 12.20m steel support and
one Scherzer
navigational moving lift Span 225 m
•It has finished 100 years of life is still in benefit
•Its development began in the year 1911 and
finished in 1914
FACTS
9. •This connect longest traverse which is 289 feet (88m ) long.
•The rough evaluated cost of development is 537.57
lakh rupees.
• 600 laborers were associated with the development of
this
scaffold.
•4,000 huge amounts of concrete was utilized for
development.
•It is India's first ocean connect

12.
13. Main advantage is it enhance the
connectivity among cities of one country to
another at easiest manner.
It reduces the cost of bridge which is the
main factor of proposing any bridge over a
location.
Its main disadvantage is that all the vehicle
should be removed before opening the
bridge.
