▷Kaizen is the practice of continuous improvement.
▷Kaizen was originally introduced to the West
by Masaaki Imai in his book Kaizen: The Key to
Japan’s Competitive Success in 1986.
▷Today kaizen is recognized worldwide as an
important pillar of an organization’s long-term
competitive strategy.
4. History
▷Developed in the USA under Training Within Industry
program (TWI Job Methods).
▷As part of the Marshall Plan after World War II in
1949-1950.
▷For the pioneering, introduction, and implementation of
kaizen in Japan, the Emperor of Japan awarded
the Order of the Sacred Treasure to Dr. Deming in
1960.
5. Implementation
▷The Toyota Production System
is known for KAIZEN, where all
Line personnel are expected to
stop their moving production line in case
of any abnormality and, along with their supervisor, suggest an
improvement to resolve the abnormality which may initiate a
kaizen.
▷The cycle of kaizen activity can be defined as: "Plan → Do →
Check → Act". This is also known as the Shewhart cycle,
Deming cycle, or PDCA.

7. Advantages
▷It is process centred.
▷All people who participate in it get certain responsibilities,
thereby giving them more purposefulness.
▷There is reduced need for inspection since there is less scope
for error.
▷Teamwork increases tremendously as a result of it and people
are able to think beyond the needs of their specific department.
▷Customer requirements are placed at the forefront of company
efforts.
▷The long term and short term goals of the company are
identified easily and there are systems to ensure that these goals
are achieved.
