Israel was promised a king. God was going to fulfill their desire. However, they wanted a king to early. God wanted to be their king . they looked around at the world and saw that everyone else had a king to rule them. God gave them what they wanted, but warned them. Many christian women find themselves in this situation. Christian women should let God be thier king, untill He gives them an earthly king. marraige is a picture of Jesus and the Church.

1. A king for Israel: and it’s application to dating
 Israelwas promised a king. Israelwanted and looked for a king earlier then
they should have.
- Don’tbe fooled into thinking you need to be in a relationship too early.
(1Sam 8:4) Thenall the eldersof Israel gatheredthemselvestogether,andcame toSamuel unto
Ramah,
(1Sam 8:5) Andsaid untohim,Behold,thouartold,and thy sonswalknotin thyways:now
make us a kingto judge uslike all the nations.
(1Sam 8:6) But the thingdispleasedSamuel,when theysaid,Give usakingto judge us.And
Samuel prayeduntothe LORD.
 God wanted to be their king, but they wanted an actual person. (doctrinely,
Jesus will physically rule{and David}).
 (1Sam 8:7) Andthe LORD saiduntoSamuel,Hearkenuntothe voice of the people inall thatthey
say untothee:fortheyhave not rejectedthee,buttheyhave rejectedme,thatIshouldnot
reignoverthem.
- Be content with whereyou are now. God wants you to put all your trust
in Him, not a person.
(Heb13:5) Let yourconversation be withoutcovetousness;andbe contentwithsuchthingsas
ye have:for he hath said,I will neverleave thee,norforsake thee.
(Heb13:6) So that we mayboldlysay,The Lord is myhelper,andI will notfearwhatman shall
do untome.
(Exod34:13) For thoushalt worshipnoothergod:for the LORD, whose name isJealous,is a
jealousGod:
(Isa42:8) I [am] the LORD: that is my name:andmy glorywill Inot give toanother,neithermy
praise to gravenimages.
(Isa42:9) Behold,the formerthingsare come to pass,and new thingsdoI declare:before they
springforthI tell youof them.
 Israellooked at everyone else who had a king, and thought they had a void
that needed to be filled.
(1Sam 8:19) Neverthelessthe people refusedtoobeythe voice of Samuel;andtheysaid,Nay;
but we will have akingoverus;
(1Sam 8:20) That we alsomay be like all the nations;andthat ourkingmay judge us,and go out
before us,andfightour battles.
(1Sam 8:21) AndSamuel heardall the wordsof the people, andhe rehearsedtheminthe earsof
the LORD.

2. (1Sam 8:22) Andthe LORD said to Samuel,Hearkenuntotheirvoice,andmake themaking.And
Samuel saiduntothe menof Israel,Goye everymanunto hiscity.
 Samuel went through all Jesse’s boys beforehe reached David. God told
Samuel at each good-looking guy to move on. Samuel did not waver. He
kept going and asked for David.
(1Sam 16:4) AndSamuel didthatwhichthe LORD spake,and came to Bethlehem.Andthe elders
of the towntrembledathiscoming,andsaid,Comestthoupeaceably?
(1Sam 16:5) Andhe said,Peaceably:Iam come to sacrifice untothe LORD: sanctifyyourselves,
and come withme to the sacrifice.Andhe sanctifiedJesse andhissons,andcalledthemtothe
sacrifice.
(1Sam 16:6) Andit came to pass,whentheywere come,thathe lookedonEliab,andsaid,Surely
the LORD'S anointedis before him.
(1Sam 16:7) But the LORD saidunto Samuel,Looknoton hiscountenance,oronthe heightof
hisstature;because Ihave refusedhim:forthe LORD seeth notas man seeth;forman looketh
on the outwardappearance,butthe LORD lookethonthe heart.
(1Sam 16:8) ThenJesse calledAbinadab,andmade himpassbefore Samuel.Andhe said,
Neitherhaththe LORD chosenthis.
(1Sam 16:9) ThenJesse made Shammahtopass by.Andhe said,Neitherhaththe LORD chosen
this.
(1Sam 16:10) Again,Jesse made sevenof hissonstopassbefore Samuel.AndSamuelsaidunto
Jesse, The LORDhath not chosenthese.
(1Sam 16:11) And Samuel saiduntoJesse,Are here all [thy] children?Andhe said,There
remainethyetthe youngest,and,behold,he keepeththe sheep.AndSamuelsaiduntoJesse,
Sendand fetchhim:forwe will notsitdowntill he come hither.
(1Sam 16:12) Andhe sent, andbroughthimin.Now he wasruddy,and withal of a beautiful
countenance,andgoodlytolookto.Andthe LORD said,Arise,anointhim:forthis[is] he.
(1Sam 16:13) ThenSamuel tookthe horn of oil,andanointedhiminthe midstof hisbrethren:
and the Spiritof the LORD came uponDavidfrom that dayforward.So Samuel rose up,and
wentto Ramah.
 A well-intentioned man will show you that he is a provider, and he will see
the character God has given you.
- Take note that Boaz was helping Ruth
(Ruth2:8) ThensaidBoaz untoRuth, Hearestthounot,my daughter?Go notto gleaninanother
field,neithergofromhence,butabide here fastbymymaidens:
(Ruth2:9) [Let] thine eyesbe onthe fieldthattheydoreap,andgo thou afterthem:have I not
chargedthe youngmenthattheyshall not touchthee?andwhenthouart athirst,gounto the
vessels,anddrinkof that whichthe youngmenhave drawn.
(Ruth2:10) Thenshe fell onherface,and bowedherself tothe ground,andsaiduntohim,Why
have I foundgrace inthine eyes,thatthoushouldesttake knowledgeof me,seeingIam a
stranger?

3. (Ruth2:11) AndBoaz answeredandsaiduntoher,It hath fullybeenshewedme,all thatthou
hast done untothymotherin law since the deathof thine husband:andhow thou hastleftthy
fatherand thymother,andthe landof thy nativity,andart come untoa people whichthou
knewestnotheretofore.
(Ruth2:12) The LORD recompense thywork,anda full rewardbe giventhee of the LORDGod of
Israel,underwhose wingsthouartcome to trust.
 Dating is taken too lightly in today’s culture. A woman should wait for her
king, and a king’s job is to ensure that he has made the woman his queen.
- Take note of how Boaz was restless till he had redeemed Ruth. Ruth was
instructed to sit still till sheknew whatwas to happen.
(Ruth3:16) Andwhenshe came to her motherinlaw,she said,Who art thou,my daughter?And
she toldher all that the man haddone to her.
(Ruth3:17) Andshe said,These six measures of barleygave he me;forhe saidto me,Go not
emptyuntothy motherinlaw.
(Ruth3:18) Thensaidshe,Sitstill,mydaughter,until thouknow how the matterwill fall:forthe
man will notbe inrest,until he have finishedthe thingthisday.
(Ruth4:1) ThenwentBoazup to the gate, andsat himdownthere:and,behold,the kinsmanof
whomBoaz spake came by; untowhomhe said,Ho, such a one!turn aside,sitdownhere.And
he turnedaside,andsat down.
(Ruth4:2) Andhe took tenmenof the eldersof the city,andsaid,Sitye downhere.Andtheysat
down.
(Ruth4:3) Andhe saidunto the kinsman,Naomi,thatiscome againout of the countryof Moab,
sellethaparcel of land,whichwas our brotherElimelech's:
(Ruth4:4) AndI thoughtto advertise thee,saying,Buyitbefore the inhabitants,andbefore the
eldersof mypeople.If thouwiltredeemit,redeem it:butif thouwiltnotredeemit,then tell
me,that I may know:forthere isnone to redeemitbeside thee;andIam afterthee. Andhe
said,I will redeemit.
(Ruth4:5) ThensaidBoaz, What daythou buyestthe fieldof the handof Naomi,thoumustbuy
[it] alsoof Ruth the Moabitess,the wife of the dead,toraise up the name of the deaduponhis
inheritance.
(Ruth4:6) Andthe kinsmansaid,Icannot redeemit formyself,lestImar mine owninheritance:
redeemthoumyrightto thyself;forIcannot redeemit.
- You don’t have to have a mom or mother in law like Naomi to be instructed to be
still. God can find any of his children a spouse.
(ps46:10) Be still,andknowthat I [am] God: I will be exaltedamongthe heathen,Iwill be
exaltedinthe earth.
 A man will not hide his relationship. He will not be ashamed of you.

4. - Boaz got witnesses.
(Ruth4:9) AndBoaz saiduntothe elders,andunto all the people,Ye are witnessesthisday,
that I have boughtall that wasElimelech's,andall thatwas Chilion'sand Mahlon's,of the
handof Naomi.
(Ruth4:10) MoreoverRuththe Moabitess,the wife of Mahlon,have Ipurchasedtobe my
wife,toraise up the name of the deadupon hisinheritance,thatthe name of the deadbe
not cut off fromamong hisbrethren,andfrom the gate of hisplace:ye are witnessesthis
day.
(Ruth4:11) Andall the people thatwere inthe gate,andthe elders,said,We are witnesses.
The LORD make the womanthat iscome intothine house likeRachel andlike Leah,which
twodid buildthe house of Israel:anddothouworthilyinEphratah,and be famousin
Bethlehem:
- Marriageis a picture of Jesus and his bride: the church. Jesus is not
ashamed of the church. In turn, God asks his bride to be unashamed of
the gospel. The church is the body of christmade up of many people,
don’t be ashamed of your fellow Christians either. Be proud of what God
has done for His church.
(2Tim1:7) For God hath notgivenusthe spiritof fear;butof power,andof love,andof a
soundmind.
(2Tim1:8) Be notthou therefore ashamedof the testimonyof ourLord,nor of me his
prisoner:butbe thoupartaker of the afflictionsof the gospel accordingtothe powerof
God;

 When God has broughttwo godly people together, other godly people will
rejoice for them.
(Ruth4:11) Andall the people that[were]inthe gate,andthe elders,said,We are witnesses.
The LORD make the womanthat iscome intothine house likeRachel andlike Leah,whichtwo
didbuildthe house of Israel:anddo thouworthilyinEphratah,andbe famousin Bethlehem:
(Ruth4:12) Andletthy house be like the house of Pharez,whomTamarbare unto Judah,of the
seedwhichthe LORD shall give thee of thisyoungwoman.
(Ruth4:14) Andthe womensaiduntoNaomi,Blessed[be]the LORD,whichhathnot leftthee
thisday withoutakinsman,thathisname may be famousinIsrael.
(Ruth4:15) Andhe shall be untothee a restorerof thy life,andanourisherof thine oldage:for
thy daughterinlaw,whichloveththee,whichisbettertothee thansevensons,hathbornhim.
(Ruth4:16) AndNaomi tookthe child,andlaiditinher bosom, andbecame nurse untoit.
(Ruth4:17) Andthe women herneighboursgave ita name,saying,There isason born to
Naomi;andtheycalledhisname Obed:he is the fatherof Jesse,the fatherof David.
 Israel’s first3 kings:
- Saul: started out good, but turned his heart from God and rebelled.
(1Sam 9:2) Andhe had a son,whose name was Saul,a choice youngman, anda goodly:and
there was not amongthe childrenof Israel agoodlierpersonthanhe:fromhisshoulders
and upwardhe was higherthanany of the people.
(1Sam 15:26) AndSamuel saiduntoSaul,I will notreturnwiththee:forthouhast rejected
the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejectedthee frombeingkingoverIsrael.
(1Sam 15:27) Andas Samuel turnedaboutto go away,he laidholduponthe skirtof his
mantle,anditrent.
(1Sam 15:28) And Samuel saiduntohim, The LORD hathrent the kingdomof Israel from
thee thisday,and hathgivenitto a neighbourof thine,thatis betterthanthou.
(1Sam 15:29) Andalso the Strengthof Israel will notlie norrepent:forhe is not a man, that
he shouldrepent.
- David: perfect heart towards God, but still human and was troubled by enemies.
(Acts13:21) Andafterwardtheydesiredaking:andGod gave untothemSaul the sonof Cis,
a man of the tribe of Benjamin,bythe space of fortyyears.
(Acts13:22) Andwhenhe hadremovedhim, he raisedupuntothemDavidto be theirking;
to whomalsohe gave testimony,andsaid,Ihave foundDavidthe son of Jesse,aman after
mine ownheart,whichshall fulfil all mywill.

6. (2Sam 13:30) Andit came to pass,while theywere inthe way,thattidingscame toDavid,
saying,Absalomhathslainall the king'ssons,andthere isnotone of themleft.
- Solomon: God made Solomon wise, but Solomon chose his love of heathen women
over his love for God.
(1Kgs11:6) And Solomondidevil inthe sightof the LORD,and wentnotfullyafterthe LORD,
as didDavidhisfather.
(1Kgs11:7) Then didSolomonbuildanhighplace forChemosh,the abominationof Moab,in
the hill thatis before Jerusalem, andforMolech,the abominationof the childrenof
Ammon.
(1Kgs11:8) And likewise didhe forall hisstrange wives,whichburntincenseandsacrificed
untotheirgods.
(1Kgs11:9) And the LORD was angrywithSolomon,because hisheartwasturnedfromthe
LORD God of Israel,whichhadappeareduntohimtwice,

othergods:but he keptnot that whichthe LORD commanded.
(2Cor 6:14) Be ye notunequallyyokedtogetherwithunbelievers:forwhat fellowshiphath
righteousnesswithunrighteousness?andwhatcommunionhathlightwithdarkness?
(2Cor 6:15) Andwhat concordhath ChristwithBelial?orwhatpart hath he that believeth
withan infidel?
(2Cor 6:16) Andwhat agreementhaththe temple of Godwithidols?forye are the temple of
