Conclusion of the sermon on the mount
1. Conclusion of the Sermonon the Mount, Second Tour of
Galilee
Matt 7:24-27
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I
will liken him unto a wise man, which builthis house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and
beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and
beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
“Hearer and doer”: The judgmentis not fire but wind and rain; the audience is
Jewish.
Jas 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the
twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving
your own selves.
The “house”, is the “house of Israel”.
Matt 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matt 15:24 But he answeredand said, I am not sent but unto the lost
sheep of the house of Israel.
Matt 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that
God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord
and Christ.
Acts 7:42 Then God turned, and gave them up to worshipthe host of
heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of
Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space
of forty years in the wilderness?
2. Heb 8:8 For findingfault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come,
saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of
Israel and with the house of Judah:
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenantthat I will make with the house of
Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their
mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and
they shall be to me a people:
The believingremnantof Israel is the wise builder, and the Christ-rejecting
Israelite is the foolish builder.
Inspirationally:
They are alike in that-
1. They both heard.
2. They both saw the need.
3. They both were confidentthey would stand the test
4. They both were exposed to the testing.
They were differentin that-
1. They responded to the message differently.
2. The foundation they chose was different.
3. The results of the testing was different.
Matt 7
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people
were astonishedat his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as one havingauthority, and not as the scribes.
Christ’s dogmatic teachingis set in contrast to the broadmindedscribes.
Jer 48:10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully,
and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.

but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Ezek. 21:3;

This “Sermon on the Mount” sums up the law and lays down the principles
of the millennial kingdomto come. It is nowhere given in the Bible as a
plan of salvation for anyone in the “Church-Age”. Jesus chose a successor
to give the “Church-Age” doctrine through.
Acts 9:15-16 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a
chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and

sake.
Acts 22:14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee,
