The group wanted to add a spoken word introduction to their video, inspired by other artists who used introductions to add quality. They planned to edit the monologue from "Prisoner" by The Weeknd and Lana Del Rey onto the beginning of their song "Florida Kilos". They felt the monologue suited the mood and having the same artist provided professionalism. They imported the songs into GarageBand, trimmed the monologue, added fade points to blend the songs, adjusted volumes, and exported the edited file to share with their group and add to the music video.
2. We decided we wanted to have a spoken word monologue at the beginning of our video, as an
introduction. We were inspired by other Lana Del Rey videos, such as Ride, and The 1975 songs
such as Loving Someone, to do this, as we feel it adds a special element to the quality of the overall
video. In order to achieve this, we planned to edit the spoken word section of Prisoner by The
Weeknd ft. Lana Del Rey onto the beginning of our chosen song, as we felt it suited the mood and
tone of Florida Kilos, and also sounded professional as the voice in the monologue and song
belong to the same person
Why did we want to use
GarageBand?
3. Step 1: The first step of our editing was to import the songs we wanted to
use into GarageBand. After they had been imported, we added them onto two
separate tracks in order to trim them appropriately.
4. Step 2: After adding the songs to the tracks, I proceeded to trimming
the monologue section out of the end of Prisoner, and adding it to the
same track as Florida Kilos
5. Step 3: Next, I opened the master track and added in points onto the trimmed
section of Prisoner. I then adjusted these, moving them down to create a fade out
effect which would allow the song to blend into Florida Kilos.
6. Step 4: I then raised the master volume of the Florida Kilos track, to ensure it
would play at full volume after the monologue had faded out fully. I then played it
through to ensure it played correctly, and played it to the rest of my group to make
sure they were happy with it.
7. Step 5: The final step was to export the file to the computers hard drive, so we
could share it within our group and also add it to the music video during post-
production. To do this, I had to export the song to the disk and compress the file
using an MP3 encoder, and then export it to the computers documents. Finally, I
opened the song in iTunes to once again make sure it played properly and without
any flaws.
