The admission to the education as a podiatrist
is the Basic School and the education is
vocational education and training.

Education after the Basic School
0-9/ years.
(The 10th year is non-compulsory
 When the student is in training after the
basic school, they can receive SU, which
is a State Education Support that
ensures, that everyone has the
opportunity to get an education in
Denmark

Most education in Denmark is public approved education,
which is subjects to laws and regulations, worked out and
approved by the Ministry of Education
 -Educational institutions work under the laws, frameworks, terms, visions
and overall strategies prepared by the Ministry of Education.
 -Education institutions get money from the Finance Ministry to run the
institutions.
 -There are very specific rules for how much money the institution gets, how
to use it and reporting how the money is spent.
 -Some programs are dimensioned, which means that the Ministry of
Education determines how many students may be admitted to a specific
education.
 -The Podiatryschool Copenhagen must register 72 applicants for the
program per year. (There are about 200 applicants per year)
 - There are about 105 students at the school at the same time

Educational Institutions in Denmark
Podiatryschool Copenhagen
 -Training for podiatrist takes 18 months, and is a
compressed full-time study, with approximately 1/3
theory and 2/3 practical training.
-All teaching takes place at the school, where there is
a large clinic with 38 treatments cabinets, Steril
function and 16 Workshops where insoles are
manufactured.

Podiatryschool Copenhagen is located in Copenhagen as an
independent department under Roskilde Technical College.
 -Bispebjerg Hospital, Wound Healing and Podiatry
department
-Treatment of patients at the Podiatryschool’s clinic
referred from Bispebjerg Hospital (skin diseases, foot
ulcers, ortonyxia, insoles etc.)
-A cafe’ for homeless citizens
Orthopaedic-Shoemakers and Prosthetist
-And other institutions and organzsations that help
develop the student’s professional, pedagogical and social
skills, that working as a state-authorized podiatrist
requires.

 -The podiatrist receives his authorization, after the
graduation, from the Danish Health Authority, which is a
department under the Ministry of Health
 -The podiatrist works under laws and regulations of the:
 -The Ministry of Health
 -The Danish Health Authority
 -The Danish Patient Safety Authority
 -The agreement between the Public Health Insurance ( a
departement under the Ministry of Finance) and and The
Association of Danish Podiatrists
 -And orther authorities that are responsible for health,
patient safety and quality assurance of clinic and
treatments

To work as a state-authorized podiatrist
in Denmark
 -There are about 1.800 podiatrists i Denmark
 -Denmark has about 5,7 million inhabitants (2016) with an
averagelife expectancy of 81,1 years (3.200 inhabitants per
podiatrist)
 -About 2 per cent are employes in hospitals, Health Centers
and at orthopedic shomakers
 -The rest are self-employed in single- or larger Clinics for
Podiatry
 -There is, virtually, no unemployment in the field of
podiatry
 -The vast of podiatry students and state-authorized
podiatrists are organized in the Association of Danish
Podiatrists

State-autorized Podiatrist
 The association of Danish Podiatrists are the
focal point for all state-authorized podiatrists
in Denmark. The association has existed since
1932 and takes care of the members'
professional, legal and financial interests.
Virtually all the podiatrists are organized in
The Association of Danish Podiatrists, and the
vast majority of the 1,800 members are self-
employed. The Association of Danish
Podiatrists negotiate an agreement with The
Public Health Insurance on behalf of members

The Association of Danish Podiatrists
 -Patients may receive, after referral from a doctor,
public grants for certain types treatment by a state-
authorized podiatrist.
 -The requirements for treatment of this patient group
are negotiated between The Association of Danish
Podiatrists and The Public Health Insurance.
 -The grant, that the patient can receive, is also
negotiated between The Association of Danish
Podiatrists and The Public Health Insurance

 Working for different strategies as a specialist teacher
requires constant competence development of various
academic and pedagogical skills
 -The specialist teachers have the opportunity to participate
in various Internal and external courses and seminars such

-Professional topics related to podiatry
 -Different pedagogical educational tools for teaching
 -Appreciative communcation and questioning techniques
 -Feedback, Feed up and Feedforward of the student,s -
theoretical and practical knowledge and skills
 -Cooperative learning (CL)
