2. My thoughts on leadership
Courage & Tenacity Honesty & Integrity Sustainability Collaboration & Engagement Professionalism Respect Trust Service
• Insightful advice from Ron Heifetz and Marty Linsky:
“The single most common source of leadership failure…is that
people, especially those in positions of authority, treat adaptive
challenges like technical problems.”
Heifetz and Linskey, Leadership on the Line (Harvard Business School Press, 2002)
• Adaptive leaders:
• recognise their limitations
• are visionary
• identify and empower allies
• make it OK to fail.
3. Values-based leadership
Professionalism, trust, respect and
collaboration and engagement
enable us to work together to serve
the community, government,
business and industry.
Honesty and integrity, courage and
tenacity are traits that we each
need to bring to our work.
We build sustainability into our
policies and services, ensuring they
are designed for current and future
generations.

7. Collaborating: the 90 day projects
Reducing red tape for the tuna industry
Changes to processes have resulted in savings of approx. $800,000 per year
for the tuna industry, improving farming capability and helping our export
markets.
Connecting passengers to public transport in real time
An application was developed that tracks buses, trains and trams to tell
passengers when their next service is running.
Research tells us this service makes passengers feel safer and increases
customer satisfaction.
Faster discharge for healthy patients
Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) was increased from 3% to 22% at Lyell McEwin,
to reach 60% by June 2014. This has resulted in a significant increase in bed
flow.
CLD will be implemented in all metro hospitals.
