INOVATIVE LESSONPLAN
Name of the teacher: Remya V. K
Name of the school: PGMVHSS pullamala
Name of the Subject: Social Science
Unit: IN SEARCH OF EARTH’S SECTRETS
Subunit: Rocks
Curricular statement: Analyses the different kinds of rocks
Content analysis
Terms year, place: crust, lithosphere, atmosphere, minerals, lava, silica, hematite, bauxite, fossil, ingenious
rocks, sedimentary rocks metamorphic rocks, granite, basalt, sandstone,
limestone, marble, slate.
Facts: (1) The crust and the upper part of the mantle together are known as lithosphere
(2) The part beneath the lithosphere, where the materials exist in a partially molten state is
known as atmosphere.
(3) The lithosphere acquires its name from materials with which it is made.
(4) The constituents of rocks are called minerals.
(5) Two thousands minerals such as silica, mica, hematite, bauxite. Etc have been identified
on earth
(6) Igneous rocks are formed by the molten rocks materials rising through the fissures in the
crust and solidifying either on the surface of the earth or within the crust itself.
(7) Igneous rocks is also knows primary rocks.
(8) Rocks undergo weathering in course of time. The debris so formed will be deposited in

the low regions as layers. These materials gradually get lithified and transformed in to
sedimentary rocks.
(9) As the sedimentary rocks are formed in layers they are also known as stratified rocks.
(10) The rocks undergo physical and chemical changes due high temperature and pressure
metamorphic rocks are prominent in Kerala.
(11) Metamorphic rocks are prominent in Kerala.
Concept: Based on the mode of formation, rocks, can be classified in to three – igneous sedimentary,
and Metamorphic.
Learning outcome: To understand the different changes occur in rocks.
To compare the different types of rocks.
To identify the different causes for the formation of rocks.
Pre-requisite:- the student has basic idea about different type’s rocks.
Teaching learning materials: - (1) power point presentation.
Class room interaction procedure Response
Introduction
• Do you like playing?
• Have you use different types of rocks with playing?
• Do you know about different types of rocks?
• Are you thinking how?
• Will these rocks are forming
With this question teacher enters into the topic.
Today we are going to discuss about the topic Rocks
B.B
“ROCKS”
Presentation
Activity 1:
Do you know; the different types of rocks and how will be these are formed?
Slide 1
Based on the mode of formation ,
rocks can be classified in to three
By showing the first slide teacher introduces the topic rocks and she discuss the content.
Activity-2
Then teacher asks, do you know about the different types of rocks, teacher show the slide.
Slide
By showing the next slide teacher explain the

(1) Igneous rocks/ primary rocks
(2) Sedimentary rocks/stratified rocks
(3) Metamorphic rocks/prominent in Kerala
Igneous rocks
Igneous rocks are formed by the molten rocks material rising,
Through the fissures in the crust and solidifying either on the
Surface on the earth on within crust itself.
For example:
As all other rocks types are formed form the igneous rocks.
They are called primary rocks.

Sedimentary rocks
Rocks undergo weathering course of time .the debris so formed
will be deposited in the low regions as layers. These materials
gradually get lithified and transformed into sedimentary rock.
E.g. : sandstone , limestone.
As the sedimentary rocks are formed in layers, they are also
known as stratified rock.
Metamorphic rocks
When rocks undergo physical and chemical changes due to high
temperature and pressure metamorphic rock are formed.
E.g. : marble , slate .
Metamorphic rocks are prominent in Kerala.

Slide-5
Sedimentary rocks
Rocks undergo weathering course of time .the debris so formed
will be deposited in the low regions as layers. These materials
get lithified and transformed into sedimentary rock.
E.g. : sandstone , limestone.
As the sedimentary rocks are formed in layers, they are also
known as stratified rock.
Metamorphic rocks
physical and chemical changes due to high
temperature and pressure metamorphic rock are formed.
E.g. : marble , slate .
Metamorphic rocks are prominent in Kerala.
After showing all the slides teacher receive all important points.
Review
1 .How wills the rocks are formed?
2. What are igneous rocks?
3. What are the examples of sedimentary rocks?
4. Name the metamorphic rocks?
Follow up activity
“Classify rocks based on their mode of formation “,
Explain the statement and collect different types of rocks?
