Preliminary Task Evaluation:
The Continuity of our short film was not very good as in different scenes I changed from
a black cardigan to a black velvet jacket with one of my sleeves rolled up. There was also
a long shot of Sophie wearing a cardigan to close up of her not wearing a cardigan.
There were different drinks being used for different scenes. However, all of the shots
were placed in chronological order allowing it to flow well from one scene to the next
without disruption.

A realist use of Match on action shot was used when walking through the door. This
allowed the continuity of the film flow more easily. However, when tracking towards the
door, the dolly was not holding a steady image, instead it was shaky. To improve next
time, a smooth surface would allow a more professional effect. The 180 degree rule was
used when Sophie & Nick where talking. To improve this, there could be more camera
movement to allow the audience to see different angles of the scene allowing it to
intrigue our audience more.

We have used shot-reverse-shot technique in our film when we were gossiping about
Sophie’s date. This allows the audience to see both of are reactions to the news shown
directly after the other, allowing the continuity to flow easily.
Our group worked well together, we all agreed on the ideas that went into the clip and
divided the work equally between each other to prevent disagreement. However our
actors were not always reliable because they were helping other groups. This meant that
when we needed to film a certain section of the film the actors may had already made
arrangements for acting in another film. There were also issues with our background
people not being available to film when necessary due to individual plans. In the future
we will organize ourselves better by organising specific filming times in which the actors
are available to do. This will allow the continuity of our film to flow better with the same
actors on the days when they are needed.
If I were to film this short film again, I would make sure the continuity was fluent and
ensure that all editing was produced to a high standard. In our short film it is very jumpy
meaning that the cuts do not run smoothly.
I think we planned very well as a shot list was used, story board, script and props such
as menus and restaurant sign. However, as I have previously mentioned I would next
time arrange times of which actors are available to film.
From using iMovie, I have learnt a lot about the software for example the use of cuts,
transitions and different levels of volume applied to the clip. I also did independent
research outside of class using my Mac at home to find short cuts of how to apply these
techniques more efficiently on my short film during school hours.
I have leant that the technologies used to process this film can be confusing at times
along with this I have found out that editing takes a long time as well. (that is to achieve
good results.)

Preliminary task *

  • 1. Preliminary Task Evaluation: The Continuity of our short film was not very good as in different scenes I changed from a black cardigan to a black velvet jacket with one of my sleeves rolled up. There was also a long shot of Sophie wearing a cardigan to close up of her not wearing a cardigan. There were different drinks being used for different scenes. However, all of the shots were placed in chronological order allowing it to flow well from one scene to the next without disruption. Some of our Ineffective Continuity screenshots below: A realist use of Match on action shot was used when walking through the door. This allowed the continuity of the film flow more easily. However, when tracking towards the door, the dolly was not holding a steady image, instead it was shaky. To improve next time, a smooth surface would allow a more professional effect. The 180 degree rule was used when Sophie & Nick where talking. To improve this, there could be more camera movement to allow the audience to see different angles of the scene allowing it to intrigue our audience more.
  • 2. Screenshot of our match on action: We have used shot-reverse-shot technique in our film when we were gossiping about Sophie’s date. This allows the audience to see both of are reactions to the news shown directly after the other, allowing the continuity to flow easily. Our group worked well together, we all agreed on the ideas that went into the clip and divided the work equally between each other to prevent disagreement. However our actors were not always reliable because they were helping other groups. This meant that when we needed to film a certain section of the film the actors may had already made arrangements for acting in another film. There were also issues with our background people not being available to film when necessary due to individual plans. In the future we will organize ourselves better by organising specific filming times in which the actors are available to do. This will allow the continuity of our film to flow better with the same actors on the days when they are needed. If I were to film this short film again, I would make sure the continuity was fluent and ensure that all editing was produced to a high standard. In our short film it is very jumpy meaning that the cuts do not run smoothly. I think we planned very well as a shot list was used, story board, script and props such as menus and restaurant sign. However, as I have previously mentioned I would next time arrange times of which actors are available to film. From using iMovie, I have learnt a lot about the software for example the use of cuts, transitions and different levels of volume applied to the clip. I also did independent research outside of class using my Mac at home to find short cuts of how to apply these techniques more efficiently on my short film during school hours. I have leant that the technologies used to process this film can be confusing at times along with this I have found out that editing takes a long time as well. (that is to achieve good results.)
