Title Radio Resource Control.
Role Software Engineer
Description Radio Resource Control is a stack in Layer 3. RRC is the most important protocol on
the radio interface between the UE and the UTRAN. It controls all the other layers at the
UE and the UTRAN, including RLC, MAC, PDCP and BMC protocol. This project was
an up gradation from Rel 6 to Rel 8(under 3GPP specification). There are many
messages that flow between UE to UTRAN and from UTRAN to UE. And in this Rel
some new messages were added. Also this layer was to be made compatible with lower
layers like RLC/MAC and Application.
Projects Undertaken
Title LTE - Serving Gateway Release 1.x
Role
Description
Software Engineer
Serving Gateway (SGW) is a core component of LTE-EPC. It resides in the user plan
where it forwards and routes data packets to and from the NodeB and the PGW. In
addition, it serves as a local mobility anchor point for inter-NodeB handover, subscriber
tracing, lawful interception, mobility between the 3GPP networks, and more.
Contribution
Developed codes from scratch.
Implemented and tested basic functionality of SGW in LTE.
Developed features like High Availability and IPv6.
Involved in HLD, LLD, Cut, and SI phases of several releases of 1.x.
Title LTE – EPC
Role
Description
Software Engineer
3GPP Long Term Evolution, referred to as LTE and marketed as 4G LTE, is a standard
for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals.
LTE is a standard for wireless data communications technology and an evolution of the
GSM/UMTS standards. The Evolved Packet Core network (or EPC) aims to provide a
3. converged framework for packet-based real-time and non real-time services. This is
done under the term system architecture evolution (SAE).
Contribution
Done End-to-End testing of all the LTE nodes.
Title LTE - Serving Gateway Release 2.x
Role
Description
Senior Software Engineer
Serving Gateway (SGW) is a core component of LTE-EPC. It resides in the user plan
where it forwards and routes data packets to and from the NodeB and the PGW. In
addition, it serves as a local mobility anchor point for inter-NodeB handover, subscriber
tracing, lawful interception, mobility between the 3GPP networks, and more.
Contribution
Implemented Subscriber tracing feature.
Worked in features like Lawful Interception of SGW.
Implemented part of data path and enhanced GTPU interface.
Involved in HLD, LLD, Cut, and SI phases of several releases of 2.x.
Customer Support of LTE-Serving Gateway (6 months).
Reviewed code written by peers.
Title LTE - PDN Gateway and Serving Gateway Customer Support
Role
Description
Senior Software Engineer
PDN Gateway (PGW) is a core component of LTE-EPC. PGW provides connectivity
from the UE to external PDN by being the point of entry or exit of traffic for the UE. The
PGW manages policy enforcement, packet filtration for users, charging support and LI.
Customer Support overall.
Overall worked on entire GTPv2 protocol.
Enhanced Gx interface for Usage Monitoring, Activation/Deactivation of policies
by PCRF, Reauthorization of policies, etc.
Usage Monitoring Feature (Expertise).
Gx, Gy and Gz interface (Good understanding).
Implemented transaction layer between control plane and data plane in both
SGW and PGW.
Datapath/Dataplane (Expertise).
4. Enhanced High Availability or Redundancy feature in PGW and SGW.
Worked on DHCP in PGW.
Worked on UE Redirection in PGW.
Mentoring and guiding peers.
Title LTE – Mobility Management Entity (MME)
(Current Project)
Role
Description
Technical Lead
Mobility Management Entity (MME) plays an important role in LTE EPC architecture. In
fact, MME is the main signaling node in the EPC. LTE MME is responsible for initiating
paging and authentication of the mobile device. MME retains location information at the
tracking area level for each user and then selects the appropriate gateway during the
initial registration process. MME connects to the evolved node b (eNB) through the S1-
MME interface and connects to S-GW through the S11 interface. Multiple MMEs can be
grouped together in a pool to meet increasing signaling load in the network. MME also
plays a vital part in handover signaling between LTE and 2G/3G networks.
Contribution
Solving bugs from customer, from internal testing and integration teams.
Closely monitoring few customers who are live in the field to provide run time
support.
Mentoring the new team members.
Customer Support overall
