A physical change alters a substance's physical properties temporarily without changing its chemical composition. Characteristics include no new substances are formed, the chemical composition does not change, and the change can be reversed. A chemical change results in one or more new substances forming with different properties and compositions compared to the original. Characteristics include new substances are formed, the original composition changes completely, and the change is permanent and irreversible. Types of changes include slow vs. fast, natural vs. man-made, periodic vs. non-periodic, and reversible vs. irreversible.

Physical change
A physical change is one in which a substance alters
temporarily in some or all of its physical properties.
Characteristics-
No new substance is formed.
There isnochange in the chemical composition of the
original substance.
The change is temporary and it can be reversed by
reversing the conditions.
The change is only in the state, size, shape, Colour, texture
or the smell of some or all of the substances that undergo
physical change.
There is no change in the mass of the substance involved
ins physical change
2. Chemical change-
The original substance gives rise to one or more new substance
with entirely different compositions and properties compared to
those of the original substance.
Characteristics-
New substances are formed
The composition of the original substance changescompletely
The change is permanent and irreversible.
There is a change in the mass of the onginal substance.
There is an exchange of energy during a chemical change which
means that heat and light may be real cased or absorbed.
Types of changes-
Slowandfastchange-
The changeshappening over a long period of time are considered sloze
changes. Examples: Rusting of iron, fruits ripening and growing
of trees.
The changes which take place in a short period of time are called
fast
changesExamples: bursting of crackers, blinking of eyes and
cutting of an apple.
Natural andman-madechanges
Changes that take place in the nature by themselves are called Natural
Changes
Eg: Change of day and night, growing of tree and eruption
of volcanoes.
Any change that occurs due to the eflorts of Human Beings is called
man-madechanges
Eg: Cooking of food, jewelry from gold, brass from copper
3. Periodicandnon-periodicchanges-
Changes that are repeated at regular interval of time are called periodic
change
Eg: Change of seasons, change of day and night
Changes that are not repeated at regular intervals are callednon periodic
changes
Eg: Epidemics, a person becoming sick, earthquakes etc.
Reversibleandirreversiblechanges-
When a change in a substance can be reversed by changing the
condition, it is called to be a
rversiblechange.
Eg: Water freezing into ice and then melting into room
temperature.
If a substance cannot be brought back to its original state after a
change,it is said to be a
irEeriblechang
Eg: Burninga piece of
