2. What is Amazon?
• Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994
• Amazon is a titan of e-commerce, logistics, payments, cloud
computing, digital streaming, AI , and media.
• It dabbles in plenty more industries.it owns over 40 subsidiaries
including Zappos, Shop bop, Diapers.com, Amazon Robotics,
Audible, Goodreads, Teach street, Twitch and IMDb , etc.
• You name any product and its on Amazon , therefore, It’s the
go-to site for online shoppers and merchants.
3. IMPACTS
• But like every other company Amazon has also been impacted by the
lockdown due to pandemic.
• However, due to social distancing and stay home policies, the COVID-19
impact on ecommerce was an initial spike in sales. With foot traffic
significantly declining sales spiked as consumers started going online to
buy and have goods delivered to their homes.
• therefore , initially there was boost in business so , the Amazon recruited
100k workers to handle delivery surge which includes from working in
warehouse to delivering the products, since march. And still looking
forward towards adding 75k more employees.
• They distributed personal protective gear, such as masks for employees,
and implemented temperature checks across there operations worldwide.
• They are working on building scalable testing for coronavirus.
4. • For the employees they,
1. Increased pay for hourly by $2 per hour in the U.S., C$2 per
hour in Canada, and €2 per hour in many European countries.
2. doubled the regular hourly base pay for every overtime hour
worked
3. offering extra time off with full pay for those diagnosed with
COVID-19.
4. established a $25 million relief fund for partners (e.g. delivery
drivers) and seasonal associates facing financial hardship or
quarantine.
6. • Now after watching the video we know that, even after giving all
that they can they might or has already been affected by the law
and orders passed.
• Eg. India's government had assured e-commerce companies
that their operations would not be disrupted amid a nationwide
lockdown to fight the coronavirus. But still it has been difficult for
e-commerce firms to get curfew passes for their delivery.
• Most of Amazon.com Inc's 60 plus fulfilment centres in India
were shut, with the company still in talks with state authorities to
swiftly reopen warehouses, three sources familiar with the
situation said. "It's worse than one can think," said one of the
sources
7. NUTSHELL
• In the end I would like to say that While the company has
overcome plenty of obstacles in the past, it's possible that the
COVID-19 crisis is different. But this hurry recruitment which is
going may become a problem for employement that is
recession aftermath.
