2.
3. Topics
u What is Kubernetes(K8s)
u Features of K8s
u K8s Architecture
u K8s Components
u K8s Work Units
u Demo
4. What is Kubernetes(K8s)
u A platform for automating deployment, scaling and operations of
application containers across cluster of nodes
u Adds value to business by
Ø reducing hardware cost
Ø minimizing maintenance cost
Ø lowering down time
u Open
Ø Open community
Ø Open design
Ø Open source
Ø Open to ideas
5. Features of K8s
u Automatic deployment
u Self-healing inside cluster
u Service discovery and load balancing
u Setting exciting limits for Scaling
u Automated rollouts and rollbacks
u Storage Orchestration
u Networking
8. K8s Work Units: Pod
u Smallest unit
u Collection of logically related
containers:
u sharing IP address, port space and
volumes
u Scheduled, scaled and terminated
together as unit
u Represents like a “Virtual host”
u If node dies, its pods also dies

9. K8s Work Units: Pod Controller
u Works as supervisor to automate:
Ø pod deployment in cluster
Ø self-healing of pods
Ø Replication
Ø roll out management
u Different Pod Controllers:
Ø Daemon Set
Ø Job
Ø Replication Controller

10. K8s Work Units: Services
u An interface with IP and port to access group of pods
u Allows for abstracted configuration
u Allows for mobility
u Works as basic load balancer
u Defines TCP or UDP port reservation
u Decouples from pods and pod controllers
u Pods are labelled to receive traffic and its container’s port name will be
included in service configuration
u Consumer uses service IP and port and request is forwarded to specified pods
in round robin fashion
