2. Taken
• Take is a film directed by Pierre Morel and is a
thriller film.
• The Film is about a retired CIA agent who
travels across Europe in order to rescue her
daughter who was kidnapped on a trip to Paris
with her friend.
3. The first shot is a close up of a birthday
hate, this shot gives us information about
what is going to happen in the scene. The
footage seems blurry to show its home
footage.
The close up camera shots of
the little girl and her mother
show us that its her birthday
and also show us how she is
cared for very well by her
mother.
This shows us her love for
horses which I relevant later in
the film. The ‘home footage’ of the little girls birthday is shot
unprofessionally and the camera is clearly being held
unprofessionally with it’s tilting and disturbed footage we
can see. This could relate to how her life becomes rocky
and uncertain later on in the film.
4. There is non diegetic music of
piano which is slow and so builds
up suspense into the atmosphere.
There is diegetic sound of the mother
talking and the little girl laughing, her
laugh is distorted and so foreshadows
again how her life will not be straight
path and something bad could happen to
The camera then flashes and cuts to Bryan, her.
this contrasts from the last shot as it’s dark
where he is. He seems to wake up and looks
as if the dream he’s had has distressed him.
It looks as if the home footage we have just
seen is the dream he was having. This shows
us how much he cares for his daughter.
The black room could be foreshadowing
the death that will surround him in the
film. The fact he’s got dark clothes on
too doesn’t give him much character
and so we are unsure what to think at
this time.
5. As Bryan turns the lamp on the non diegetic piano music stops. In this
long shot of Bryan we get to see more of the room. The old takeaway
Chinese boxes gives us an insight to his life and implies that he lives off of
junk food and lives alone. The room is quite plain and as it’s not very
extravagant it shows how he is neither poor nor rich.
6. As Bryan gets up we see a
close up shot of an older girl
riding a horse. This clarifies
for the audience that it is his
daughter and the fact that its
on his table shows how much
he cares for her and also how
he’s proud of her
achievements.
In this close up shot of the photo
frame the word “TAKEN” has been
This shows again edited into the shot to show the title
her love for of the film. This also works well as it
horses which we connects the two pieces and so
saw before. contrasts the care we’ve just seen
that her parent’s have for her.
7. Bryan wears plain clothes and
shows that again he’s not rich
yet not poor either.
There’s a long shot as
the car pulls up outside
the shop and he has a
plain car too, which
suggests again that he’s
middle class.
There’s an extreme close up
on Bryan wrapping his
daughters karaoke machine,
he wraps it very precise to
show his care for her again.
8. The use of shot reverse shot
here shows the
conversational style.
This shows the audience
their close relationship and
also shows how he would
do anything for her.
This medium shot
foreshadows how he
would do anything for her,
as he’s told not to take a
photo but does so anyway.
9. This shot relates to the first home footage
one as it shows her love for horses again.
The fact that she’s being taken away from
her father and the step dad is “taking” her
away could also foreshadow the later
storyline.
Here the non
diegetic music
comes back in
and is sad, slow,
suspenseful
music plays
again to show
his loneliness
and sadness.
