2. This is a medium wide shot. In this shot the dad is asleep; he is reminissing about when his daughter was
young and how he misses her company. The horse foreshadows the rich lifestyle that she now has. This
scene shows her mother being there on her daughters birthday but the dad is no where to be seen as this
foreshadows how he was never there for her as a child except every year on her birthday. The fact that the
daughter is wearing pink in this shot is part of the mis en scene showing that she is young and doesn’t
know much about the dangers in the world. This foreshadows when she is kidnapped as she and her friend
abi are saved
3. This shows that during the dads flash back that he misses her being a young child as they still lived
together as a family, the nostalgic lighting makes this more evident as it appears to be a video clip
taken from when she was five but we then find out that it is just a memory flowing through her
mind.
4. This close up mid shot shows that the dad is back to his reality and relised he was just dreaming. The lighting here
is symbolic as it shows he is in the dark about what is going to happen to his daughter. Another reason for the
director to choose such lighting could be to symbolise how lonely the dad is, (he doesn’t have much light in his
life).
5. His house very dull in colours which shows he is unhappy with the way things are. The depressing air to his house
could also symbolise his wife and daughter living and they took his happiness with them when they moved away. He
is gassing at a picture of his wife showing that he misses her very much and also that he wants a closer relationship
with his daughter. The fact that the door to his left is lit up in contrast to the room he is sitting in foreshadows that
there will be hope when he is rescuing his daughter.
6. This is a wide mid shot. The bright colours behind him contrast with his clothing this could be to do with semiotics
and how he is behind in his daughters life. This could also be foreshadowing that he and Lenor clash when deciding
on what is best for their daughter kim. He is cautious when buying his daughters birthday present as he feels he is
detached from her life and therefore knows hardly anything about her. This could also symbolise him trying not to let
his daughter out of the country and how he is cautious that she will discover the dangers of the world, or possibly get
hurt by them.
7. In this wide and panning shot the protagonist is left in the shadows, this shows that not only does he
not fit in with the way that her mum and step father want to raise the daughter, but he does not fit in
with their rich and extravagant lifestyle. This could also show that he is not used to such riches
himself. The director has contrasted certain aspects of the mis en scene but putting everyone next to
the bright and rich house in colourful clothing and the protagonist is wearing a dark grey and cheap
looking suit.
8. This mid shot shows that he does not fit in here as he clothes are obvious cheap looking and he is therefore
not used to going to such parties. He has wrapped his daughters gift in childish clown wrapping paper, which
means he has not accepted the fact that Kim is growing up. Bryan and Lenor are fighting about Bryan breaking
the rules; this could foreshadow Kim and Amanda breaking the rules but talking to the guy in the airport and
as a result being kidnapped by Albanian ring leaders. Bryan has been placed in the third and therefore this
shot is focusing on him.
9. This is a close up shot , Kim and Bryan are in the third, showing that this shot is focusing on their relationship. In this
shot it shows how much Kim misses her father and she is happy that he has come to her party. A normal teenager
would usually brush of affections from a parent or adult, this therefore shows that she has not seen him in a long
time.
10. In this Wide mid shot, Kim is in the third and therefore the shot is focusing on her surprise and excitement
that her stepdad has just presented her with a horse. Bryan is unhappy with this as it takes Kim’s attention
away from him. He feels that the stepdad is trying to replace him and is angry towards him, as he is still in
love with his ex wife. The colours in this shot mean that Bryan is somewhat camouflaged into the
background, this could symbolise the fact that he now feels invisible as Kim’s attention has been averted to
the new present.
