1. The document provides descriptions and rationale for shots included in a horror film trailer about mysterious disappearances of girls in a small town.
2. Various shots are described that set the creepy atmosphere including extreme long shots of dark fields and an isolated barn, black and white medium shots that build suspense as a zombie gets closer to a girl, and close ups of evidence and a possessed woman's doll to link to the attacks on females.
3. Shots like a low camera angle as a phone rings creepily for a girl alone are meant to confuse and tension the audience to make them want to watch the full film.
2. Establishing Shot
I started with this shot with the effect of a bad film to set the scene of the horror
genre, looking across deserted, dark fields. Although the typography at the
beginning also helps to set the scene it was important to allow the audience to
imagine they were there themselves how creepy it would be.
3. Extreme Long/establishing shot
I used the same filter as I did on the field the bad film effect. I chose to set the
scene again showing the creepy barn and where the girls had been mysteriously
disappearing. Although the barn is quite modern it meant that it was an enclosed
space that they couldn’t escape and I wanted to portray a trapped feeling.
4. Medium Shot
I used a black and white filter and the record effect on this footage because of the poor
lighting with had effected the quality of my film. The idea was that the camera isn’t seen by
the girl but is watching the action unfold in the barn. The shots would flicker on and off so
that the zombie is getting closer and closer building suspense but also building up dramatic
irony.
5. Medium Close Up
The poor lighting in the barn really effect my quality of the footage so I made it black and
white as if there was like an unknown camera watching them, I also added the record effect
so that the it also helped to emphasis this idea. The idea was there would be shots showing
the zombie getting closer to the innocent girl without her realizing this is dramatic irony as we
are part of the movie as a watcher knowing more than the characters building suspense.
6. Close up
The close up of the camera over the newspaper is meant to be the person finding the
evidence, with the red pen highlighting specific words or blanking out girls. The torch also
followed the camera to make it a eye line match of the character. It also reflects the horror
genre because its like a creepy zombie woman has been keeping evidence of the girls and
other people who have been murdered or killed, portraying the horror genre.
7. High angle shot
The high angle shot is meant to be looking over the doll as if the woman being possessed is
child like and she is attached to childhood memories. The doll also being a female links with
the women being attacked. The doll is make belief and the high angle shot makes us seem
powerful over a weak helpless item.
8. Medium Close Up
I decided to flicker on different effects of this medium close up, the pitch fork gives the
image the horror genre and the blood stains on her costume also suggest blood and horror.
The facial express and the mood of address being directly at the camera is creating fear.
9. Close up
The idea of the camera being on the floor and the low key lighting is to build up the
atmosphere of the trailer and that something is about to happen. Its almost as though we
weren’t meant to see this footage and the fact we are at the same level as her we are also
experiencing the horror.
10. Close Up
The close up of the phone with the ‘blink’ effect on final cut pro allows the audience not to
understand what is happening but its also creepy that some unknown is calling this girl in a
deserted town where they may not be signal.
11. Medium Shot
The medium shot isn’t very clear unfortunately due to the poor lighting however it was
meant to be a girl chained up and we don’t see her face just her shaking it trying to escape,
again confusing the audience build tension so they want to go watch it.
