The trailer summarizes a horror film called "One Missed Call" about women receiving mysterious phone calls from the dead. It establishes intrigue by showing a woman receiving a worrying call and questioning why one shouldn't answer their phone. Through intercut shots and unsettling music, it builds tension as the women try to solve the mystery of the calls while facing increasing danger, culminating in a final shot of a man being dragged away.
1. One missed call
The trailer starts off by showing the companies that
endorse and create the film, the music played over the
trailer is eerie and creepy. Then on the screen pops the text
‘Everyday 2 billion cellphones ring’ This automatically
makes the trailer creepy as it is a topic the viewers will
relate to and understand which in the long run will then allow the audience them to
put themselves in the situations the cast find themselves in the film.
Then the theme music of the film which is
also the phones ring tone starts to play over
the top. You then see a shot of a woman
looking worried, it then zooms into the phone
and then puts focus on the phone by blurring
out the two girls in the background.
The music carries on playing but an
underlying tune starts to play creating an
eerier affect. Then the text ‘Sometimes
you answer the call…’ pops up and then a
shot of her phone and the speech ‘You
have one new message’ is spoken over the
top and then the text’ and sometimes you shouldn’t’ both the
text and the speech place the question in your head, answering
your phone is an everyday occurrence so you start to question why they shouldn’t
answer the phone.
There is a quick change to a close up of the women answering
the phone and hearing a scream and then a quick close up on
another women on the phone. The women then goes onto speak,
there is then a low angled shot on the women making her seem
inferior, the phone is also in the shot to draw the attention to the
importance of the phone.
More text is then shown on the screen and the shots of the
women who is danger walking, the music then changes to
almost child like music, the music creates tension. The shot
is almost like a point of view shot but not from a particular
character, the speech of the girl is her saying she feels like
shes being followed and the shot also indicates this.
She then says ‘I keep seeing things’, it jumps to a shot of a
scary character but the shot is quickly removed by a
passing bus, this is the first scary shot we see in the trailer
which may indicate the direction the trailer is going in, it
will be a horror film.
2. The shots quickly change to fast snappy shots
where the women falls off the bridge, the shots
of the other women then go black and white and
flash instead of full length shots, these shots
separate them from the rest of the trailer and
create a feel of fear.
The attention then goes back to the phone calls, she goes
on to explain about the phone calls to other people, shots
of her explaining are shown and then the ring tone music
starts again, the shots are slow and fluid until the shot of
the little girl, this shot is sharp and fast and there is also a
thud over the music to attract your attention.
It then goes onto lots of fluent shots of the women
explaining the situation to numerous people who then go
on to die. The woman then goes onto take out the battery
of a phone and says ‘If any dead people call, were not
home’ this is the first indication that they understand the
situation and are trying to take control. There is a shot of
the phone laid on the settee with the two girls blurred in
the background, again putting importance on the phones.
The ring tone music then starts to play, which is an
indication something is wrong and someone is going to
die. Although the battery is out the phone still rings
which triggers the girls to be worried, you then see
numerous shots of her trying to get help, but throughout
these shots you see another scary women. The music
changes on this shot and becomes eerier rather than the
ring tone music.
Shots then go on to be fluent as she is trying to work
out the mystery, the music is fluent until scarier
shots are met by a bang added to the music, it makes
you jump and draws your attention to that shot. The
shots are faded in with black shots joining them.
The shot of her outside the hospital shows the scale
of what she is dealing with, she is very small in
comparison but it is filmed by a slight low angled
shot which shows her power and determination to figure it out.
3. The shots become very dark and a lot slower. Until a loud
bang in the music is joint by her being dragged away, this
is the first sign of danger since entering the building. The
music speeds up and becomes more intense.
The text then comes up ‘What will it sound like’ ‘When you die?’ this poses a
question and it is relevant to the film as it is what the film is really about. The shots
then become fast and dangerous, showing you the real danger in the movie and how it
will turn out, some of the shots contain footage shown throughout the trailer, such as
the little girl and the phone. These shots are quick snippets of what happen in the film
accompanied by fast, speedy music.
The text ‘One missed call’ comes up, which is the first time
we see the name of the film. It is followed by a final shot
of them investigating the building, the final shot is the man
being dragged away, it poses a question as who dragged
him away, it is a fast rapid image, with music to set the
pace of the last shot, there is a loud bang as he gets dragged
away.
