Making a book is not easy like we think. First, we have to correct errors on
Microsoft Word or CorelDRAW and start to print every 16 pages (or 32) of the
book, after that we fold these pages and send them to another factory to trim and
sew. Meanwhile, we design its cover until the customer are pleased with the
image, the cover is also printed and cut, then we use a laminate machine to give
the cover gloss or matte lamination (to protect it from damages that may occur
such as scratches and make it become waterproof), we also cut the cover to the
size that is suitable with the book. Finally, we send pages and the cover to the
factory where they make the finished product, and there we have a book to read!
We make these books to the order of Tue Giac Pagoda, main contents of these books are
about the philosophy of life, including the zen masters teaching us how to live a
meaningful life by mastering our emotions.
14. 13
To publish a book is even more
complicated than to print it, the
author will collect his/her ideas
and write the script, then send it
to the company so I can type
and correct the error and use
Adobe Illustrator to set up
pages as the customer request,
and we print 2 books (printing
steps that I mention above).
The customer will send those
books to the publisher, then the
censor will read the book and
remove any offensive details.
The book’s price has to be
printed on its cover. The author
must apply for a publishing
license, too. That is why
making books and publishing
them take some great effort!
“Truyen thuyet Mai Lam”, written by Thu Phap Hung Manh was printed in An Moc
Phat, and its author is waiting to have the license to print more books and sell them.

CHAPTER 2: ACTUAL SITUATION OF WORK PERFORMANCE IN AN
MOC PHAT COMPANY
2.1. Basic concept
2.1.1. What is work performance?
According to Simplicable, work performance is how well an individual
performs a job, role, task or responsibility, including tangible things such as revenue
targets, net profit margin and intangible things such as communication, productivity.
Performance is evaluated with respect to documented responsibilities, objectives, goals
and reasonable expectations associated with a role, profession and industry. The
following are common types of work performance in many aspects:
Revenue of the firm
Revenue related performance such as the ability to close sales or create
products that sell or maybe well-known.
Delivery to Commitments
Delivering goods, letters, merchandise, especially food, etc.… to schedule and
budget.
Customer Satisfaction
In many cases, pleasing the clients is a key accomplishment. It is often
productive to look at performance in terms of customer experience. This includes
employees who aren’t customer facing. For example, a web designer might gather
customer feedback for a design as a way of documenting performance.
Communication
The effectiveness of using verbal and written communication. For example, an
engineer who is good at explaining technical things to marketing teams, everyone can
fully understand what he says.
Team-work spirit
Contributing to the success of other members and the culture of a team.
Avoiding counterproductive politics, especially within your team.
17. 16
Design
Creating useful, eye-catching or unique things. For example, Yayoi Kusama is
one of the most famous artists in the world, as colorful artworks filled with polka dots
have become a trademark of her.
Creativity
Being the source of valuable ideas that get implemented. To do this, you have
to spend time connecting with the nature and living a slow life, letting your mind be
open to new ideas.
Decision Making
Making clear and timely decisions. Accepting your liability and responsibility
as well as learning from mistakes.
Leadership
The ability to motivate and influence people in a directed way that achieves
goals.
Management
Directing and controlling the resources of an organization, they can be
properties or the workforce.
Equity & Difficult Conversations
Being truthful but polite to provide feedback including difficult conversations.
For example, a manager letting employees know right away if their performance is low
as opposed to waiting for review time, so that they can quickly fix themselves.
Strategy
Creating, developing, evaluating, documenting, selling and leading strategies.
Eventually, strategic abilities are assessed according to the success of the strategies
themselves.
The ability to adapt changes
18. 17
Individuals embracing and deliver change are the opposite of a common
tendency to resist change.
Problem Solving
Solving issues in a timely manner. For instance, a software engineer who
troubleshoots and solves technical issues for his customers.
Knowledge
Developing knowledge and communications that have an enormous impact on
the business.
Metrics & Optimization
Developing measurements and optimizations. For instance, accomplishing a
daily report which shows the flaws in a production line by root cause so as to make
quality improvements.
Risk Management
Identifying potential losses and taking action in the nick of time to manage and
reduce risks.
Costs
Reducing costs is every organization target. For example, an IT manager carries
out an investigation to discover payments that no longer need to be made to vendors
for unused software licenses.
Efficiency
Improving efficiency such as reducing the turnaround (receiving, processing,
and returning) time of a business process.
Throughput
The total amount of work that is delivered by an employee. Also, paying
attention to the quality of work is necessary.
Quality of Work
19. 18
The quality of delivered work. This can be estimated in terms of non-functional
requirements. For example, the quality of code can be assessed in terms such as
reliability and maintainability.
Ethics & Compliance
Ethical, decent, right-minded, honest behavior and strategy with respect to
coworkers, customers, communities, society and the environment including
compliance to laws, policies and regulations.
Professionalism
Professionalism at work such as dressing appropriate clothes or refraining from
inappropriate personal conversations in front of customers.
Due Care
Practicing the diligence that is expected of your profession and industry. For
example, an air traffic controller is expected to be alert with a high degree of
situational awareness at all times.
2.1.2. Ways to measure work performance
Level of execution
Quality of work
Creativity level
Amount of consistent improvement
Customer, colleague and peer feedback
Net profit
The way someone responds to feedback
Ability to take ownership
Percentage of tasks completed on time
Being on time and on budget
2.1.3. The importance of enhancing work performance
The reason why we must evaluate work performance and therefore, find
solutions to enhance it because business owners need employees that are able to
20. 19
accomplish the job as employee performance is critical to the overall success of the
company. Basically, good employees are productive, which creates great working
environments and increases overall productivity. Evaluations help business owners
establish where they can help employees grow, determine strengths, weaknesses so that
they can do even better. Specifically, one of the most crucial factors in employee
performance is to achieve goals. Employees who perform effectively get things done
properly the first time and this also saves their time.
For instance, if the person who created customer reports was always late in
completing them, the client services department would always be waiting, looking
unprofessional. If workers want to advance through the ranks at their current company,
above-average or maybe excellent job performance is very essential. To qualify for
internal promotions, special projects, professional development opportunities, and high
salary, the boss will look first to the company’s high performers. Consequently, high-
performing staff members usually feel successful and motivated. Motivated employees
are creative and they create more of what they love, this gives their life purposes and
happiness.
Moreover, using employee evaluations on a regular basis helps employees see
their growth so that they can feel brilliant at making progress over time. It also makes
them set new goals, keeping the energy within the office high. In addition, rewarding
high-performing employees often motivate these employees to exceed their efforts
from what it was during the previous period. It’s one thing to have employees doing a
great job; it’s better to cultivate that strength so that it grows into something larger and
that benefits the entire department or company. Watching employees grow shows the
potential they have for advancement and leadership, and leaders can help the employee
in their career development. If when the employee decides to look for new employment
opportunities, he/she will be well-served by positive endorsements from previous
employers and to give everyone reasons to describe their exceptional performance,
good attitude, and meaningful contributions. Besides that, when employees perform the
job to the best of their abilities, it not only benefits them but their co-workers, as well.
Being a contributing member of the team and a helpful, a supportive co-worker will
21. 20
make their work life more enjoyable and rewarding. They can also expect to get the
same kind of assistance from colleagues when they need an extra hand on a project or
task. This kind of cooperative culture helps to reduce stress in the workplace.
Finally, what will happen if employees are not performing well? Of course, it
negatively affects productivity and the profits of the company. When employees do not
perform effectively, consumers feel that the company is apathetic to their needs, and
will seek help from competitors. But poor performance doesn’t mean a poor employee,
good managers will evaluate the deficiencies to see if there is an issue, whether a talent
issue, management, or a development issue and try to fix it. The evaluation can affect
team training strategies, along with future recruiting strategies.
2.2. Actual situation in AMP Company
An Moc Phat operates a bit complicated, although the company head office is in
Go Vap District, staff members and leaders mostly work at the branch in District 6.
This is due to the fact that the network of roads in Go Vap is complex and this can be
difficult for customers to find the company. District 6, however, is near to many
suppliers of the company and easier for consumers to visit the firm.
The company was founded in April 2020 by its two stakeholders Mrs Tran Thi
Dong Thanh and Mr Pham Van Manh, with the passion of start-up to bring their own
unique ideas of printing in life, make it come true and not depending on anybody. As a
new firm in the marketplace, it has only three employees including two owners and me.
In the organizational structure that I mentioned, the company has five departments and
three workers, so it can be inferred that we have to do all the job, from recruiting new
staff members, training them on using software and printing machines, converting raw
materials into finished products, writing content to promote the company and
sometimes shipping orders. Being an accountant, I mostly work with numbers and
financial reports but if it is necessary, I also give them a helping hand to meet the
deadline. I get to know how to work with printing machines, comb binding machine
and photocopiers, even learn how to design a packaging or design decals… The
company is quite dynamic and flexible because employees can quickly change from
one job to another and they are hard-working. However, employees usually receive
22. 21
complains from the customers due to deadline miss, this is because the company has
few employees so we cannot do all the amount of work, sometimes there are fights
between the leaders as they are stressful when dealing with lots of work. After a few
months of working, this causes a lot of negative impact on AMP business owners’
health, they cannot work effectively like they used to, they also face with many issues
such as stomach illness, headache, fever, chronic fatigue syndrome… I have been
observing and figure out many factors that affect their health and this leads to
unproductive work performance.
2.3. Factors affecting work performance in the company
Work environment
An employee’s working environment will definitely influence their mood, drive
and overall performance in the organization. It is very simple, if business owners give
their employees a supportive and healthy work environment, they’ll be highly
productive. While we think that work environment includes structural elements such as
lighting, ventilation, furniture and office equipment, it’s scope is far beyond material
things. It also includes the company’s work atmosphere; which is considered the most
important factor. If the work atmosphere is built on principles of cooperation, healthy
competition and empathy, employees are going to be greatly motivated and driven
because they believe their workplace is a safe zone for them to express themselves and
perform to the best of their abilities. If a business can achieve this, its chance of success
is extremely high.
The key to creating a healthy environment is to promote values such as
transparency, honesty, respect, integrity, fairness, responsibility, co-operation, great
teamwork and accomplishment. Make these values a part of the firm’s culture by
asking the top management and Human Resources teams to advocate them on an
everyday basis. And the company should also reward employees who follow these
values during appraisal time to encourage them to continue practicing ethical values.
Processes
23. 22
Process, or known as employees’ absence, has a huge impact on organizational
productivity. Carrying out processes is one of the most effective ways to boost team or
individual productivity. A process defines a specific sequence of steps for executing a
particular duty. Good processes are defined as the learning after a lot of trial and error.
Therefore, they are the fastest, most reliable methods for accomplishing tasks. Having a
process helps you figure out what to do because you just execute until you are satisfied
with the result, and you can look back to see the improvements. The most productive
companies build processes for almost all their tasks and projects that happen on a
regular basis. For example, most HR teams have a process for employee onboarding,
but not for employee off-boarding, so it is usually neglected, which sometimes even
lead to legal, platform access and data privacy compliance issues.
Goals
Clearly defined work goals are great for boosting productivity levels because
they’re the measures of productivity themselves. Goals help employees channel, direct
their energy towards productive tasks only, and have clearer decision making.
Therefore, the boss should inform employees of their goals as a great way for them to
have a target in mind. Most companies measure the productivity of their workers by
evaluating if they reached their goals or not and goal setting also helps alleviate any
employee doubts. For instance, a person who has their goals or purpose in life and try
to achieve them always contribute meaningful things more than those who don’t have,
are happier and more satisfied.
Employee wellness
Employee wellness means a broad term encapsulating the mental, physical or
even psychological health of the company’s employees. Truly caring about employee’s
health is a great way to humanize a firm’s brand and create a good impression on
customers. By prioritizing workers’ health over profits, companies are treating them as
human beings – not machines or robots. This leads to increased job satisfaction and
motivation – which, in turn, will boost their performance.
24. 23
A healthy and happy employee is of course, going to have more physical and
mental resources to invest in their work. This helps them become extremely focused,
fast and avoid procrastinating, while sick or stressed employees may finish their work
much harder and longer than they usually do. This is going to delay the company’s
deadlines and jeopardize employee burnout. Employee burnout is the total exhaustion
of an employee’s physical resources when coping with work. Once they hit burnout –
they will not likely be as capable as they were – leading to irreversible drops in
productivity. The best way to do this is by the leaders setting the example so they can
encourage employees to take care of themselves. For example, companies can start
serving healthy food options like fruits and veggies more than snacks in office cafeteria
to nudge employees towards a healthier lifestyle. Another example of this is not to
make your employees work too much, companies should create opportunities for their
staff to enjoy outdoor activities such as playing sports and travelling, or read books.
Training
And the last one is the employee’s training, it plays a huge role in how prepared
they are for their jobs. The more prepared they are – the more productive they’re likely
to be and they can find the best way to complete the job without working too hard. An
untrained employee won’t know what they have to do or how to do it, they can strive
all the effort they want, but if they don’t know where to direct that effort, it’s going to
be unproductive work as well as wasting time. Training may not be that simple like
role-specific instructions, employees need advanced domain-level training too because
advanced training helps them understand the bigger picture. They have to fully
understand the field they’re working in before understanding what their job requires.
For example, a salesperson in the B2B field will have to change their approach
and processes once they move to the B2C arena, knowing about B2C consumer
psychology will be a huge advantage in their work. Entrepreneurs have to make sure
that they execute thorough training procedures during onboarding to educate employees
on their detailed domain knowledge, the fields they’ll be working in, and the duties
they’re expected to perform.
2.4. General assessment
25. 24
2.4.1. Strength
The company has plenty of strength which makes it a brilliant place to work
for. First of all, it has a positive work environment, other employees and I can freely
speak and exchange our knowledge, this leads to great teamwork because we
communicate well and understand each other. It is also a skeptical work environment
as our boss encourages us to ask questions to improve the quality of the job, products,
and facilities. At the end of the month, we always have a meeting where we will give
feedback on the work of each employee, solve any conflict that happens between co-
workers and our seniors. Plus, any hard-working member will receive extra wages.
Second, the leaders treat employees with respect like their friends, their
families, they sometimes tell us jokes to reduce stress when we are dealing with
stressful moments. They share everything they know without hiding anything because
they want us to learn more about many aspects of the job so we can determine which
path is the right one for our future. They also have the ability to embrace failure
because an employee does something wrong, they never insult or degrade that person,
instead, they still remain calm and carefully thinking how to find a better solution.
Indeed, they are amazing leaders.
The last reason that I think the company can develop steadily is the leaders have
a strong desire to learn and experience new thing, they do not act like they know
everything, they watch how other companies operate and how staff members work so
they have the right way to fix many problems to keep the company growing.
2.4.2. Limitations
During my internship at the company, I found out the company is developing
very fast, but its work performance is not fine, this is because the company does not
have many workers and this leads to overwork. Overwork happens in all company but
if it always occurs, it will cause poor health and frustration at work, and workers will
eventually want to quit the job as they are exhausted and no longer have passions for
it. In the company, a worker usually does multi-task so they can hardly focus on one
job, so we can feel stressful when leaders urge us on finishing the job quickly.
26. 25
Next one is the untidy work environment, as the leaders of the company are not
very well-organized and being very busy, so they cannot clean the office frequently.
This can cause the customers and new employees to have a bad impression on the
company whenever they come to the office, they will think that workers and managers
pay no attention to the details and are not professional. Gems and bacteria will spread
everywhere in a messy work environment, make employees get sick more often, so
absenteeism will increase. Employees may pay attention on the mess instead of their
work in an unhygienic office because they feel uncomfortable. Even more dangerous
than that, having piles of paper lying around can cause a fire risk, especially if it is
located near electrical items such as photocopiers and computers.
Moreover, the leaders still have not established rules for the employees.
Without rules, it is harder for the boss to control any inappropriate behaviors like
being late for work, abusing co-workers, not being honest, lazy or stealing money…
Besides that, unstable working hours leave the employee confuse because they don’t
know when to go to work. This can be extremely inconvenient to those whose house is
far from the company if the owners forget to inform. They sometimes just close the
office out of the blue to meet customers.
Last but not least, the company has not focused on environmental problem, they
wasted a lot of materials due to many factors: broken machines, careless mistakes, or
because the customers want their products to be finished too soon and the employees
feel anxious, try to complete the products fast so the customers will be pleased, but all
I can see is that they make mistakes and ruin the products!
CHAPTER 3: SUGGESTIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORK
27. 26
PERFORMANCE AND WAYS TO ATTRACT MORE CUSTOMERS
An Moc Phat Company has a positive work environment and great potentials
but its employees’ work performance needs to be enhanced. Therefore, I suggest some
solutions that can be helpful to the development of the firm:
Firstly, the company should hire more employees for each department to
prevent multi-tasking. This way employees can entirely focus on their work and
complete it with their best ability, and do the job faster. Trying to focus on more than
one task at a time puts pressure on the brain, employees can wear themselves out.
Scientists believe that our brain is designed to concentrate on doing one thing at a
time, if we added pressure of switching from one task to another, the brain takes more
time to do them, causing stress as the same tasks now take more time than what we
would normally take to complete it, the result is you get up doing nothing of value at
the end of the day. This condition usually happens in An Moc Phat, as my boss set too
many goals at one time and this does more harm than good. I think we should
concentrate on one thing, complete it and only then move on to the next one.
Secondly, the leaders of the company should try to balance their work life by
exercising regularly and eat healthier food to improve their health, so that they can be
productive and creative at work, they can take good care of their family and help the
company achieve further growth, bring the best products to customers.
In addition, I recommend the business owners to establish a list of policies for
the company to create discipline, promote cooperating environment, maintain the
equity. Policies and rules are the key to promoting the harmony among the members of
the company, ensuring everyone works for a common goal, knowing the fundamental
duties. Warning and caution are also included as they remind employees not to cross
the limits, which means having appropriate behaviors and no breaking of the rules.
To attract customers, I suggest that the leaders should recruit Marketing staff
members. They will write posts to promote and advertise company’s products on
social media, more customers will be interest in the products, this can build sales and
profits for the company, then they create a company’s website for customer to access
and order easily . Having a sanitation worker to clean the office regularly can motivate

employees because the disorganization makes it more difficult to work, so cleaning the
workplace will help to avoid this condition, and a clean office looks more appealing
than an untidy office.
Furthermore, to advertise a product successfully, the product itself must be
high-quality, so I think An Moc Phat company should consider to invest in advanced
machines and facilities, they bring many benefits such as reducing errors and time, and
giving ways to innovation by creating a better product. Having an advanced and clean
office can create a good impression to customers and the firm appears to be
professional.
Last but not least, the company’s leaders need to focus on environmental
problems, reduce the amount of trash by recycling discarded papers. Because printing
companies manufacture lots of products and they also produce lots of wastes, their
actions to protect the environment will create a positive impact, they may use those
scrap papers to make nice, creative handmade products. Being an environmental
friendly business can have a lot of advantages, which are saving money because of
using resources more efficiently, attracting investment from banks and other source of
finances, together with loyal customers as they find the company authentic,
transparent, philanthropic, and be responsible to social as well as environmental issues,
and they want the company to care about employees and others’ life than just focusing
on earning profits. Many government organizations and large companies will only
work with green businesses, so those companies that are irresponsible to the
environment would not exist long.

CHAPTER 4: THE PROGRESS IN DEVELOPING VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS
Actually, I have been working as an accountant in the company for more than
two months, and I’ve never imagined that I would learn a lot of new things here. When
I first coming to the company, I did not know anything about accounting, so I started
to work with bookkeeping software with the guidance of Mrs Dong Thanh. Then, I
had the chance to learn professional knowledge such as understanding finances,
writing tax reports... My math skills and organizing skills are enhanced so much when
I start to do this job.
Not only that, my typing speed is much faster since I usually use computer.
Now I have basic knowledge about using essentials tips and tools to design in
illustrator programs like Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW. As a book lover, I always
curious about how people print books, my question has been answered when I become
an intern at the company, I appreciate books more. During my internship at the
company, I know how it feels like to be in an actual, professional work environment,
so I have the motivation to overcome my laziness and procrastination. Besides that, I
can handle stressful situations better than I used to. Though I still occasionally late for
work, it is not as bad as before as I started being disciplined and serious. I gain a lot
more confidence to communicate with co-workers and express my opinions because
we are encouraged to ask questions. I also learn how to apply my theoretical
knowledge to real life when I translate English documents and manuals. My team-
working skills have been strengthened when I work with staff members to complete
the tasks. While I was working for the company, I began to find the right path for my
future and realize the true meaning of my life. Once again I would like to express my
gratitude to Faculty of Foreign Language for giving me and other college students the
chance to experience internship at the company.

CONCLUSION
No matter what level, employees are the company’s most valuable asset
because they are the base of a strong and long-running organization, so their
performance is a determining factor that can affect the overall success of the company.
Focusing on improving their job performance is the best way to boost their
productivity and set effective goals for work, as well as keeping them interested in
their career, so that they are motivated and passionate, this will give their life purposes
and they will contribute more to the company along with the development of our
society. Companies must carry out the right measurements, notice the main factors that
affect and evaluate their workers on a regular basis to help employees discover their
strengths and weaknesses, and look for solutions to improve themselves, as well as
finding out what employees want from the company to fulfill their wishes.
An Moc Phat Company is also aware of this problem, its leaders are trying their
best to create a great working environment for employees, and they have quite
succeeded in advancing the business although there are still some limitations that need
overcoming. I have been observed the way An Moc Phat company operates, and come
up with many practical proposals to enhance the work performance. I sincerely hope
that they will consider these suggestions to quickly improve the company and bring
their best products to the customers.
