9. Behavioral Health Services
Mather is one of a few hospitals on Long Island to offer a continuum of inpatient and
outpatient behavioral health services for both adolescents and adults. It is the only acute
care hospital in Suffolk County with an adolescent psychiatric unit and an adolescent
partial hospitalization program.
Our psychiatric programs include an Inpatient Adult Psychiatric Unit, an Inpatient
Adolescent Psychiatric Unit,
an Adult Partial Hospitalization Program and an Adolescent Partial Hospitalization
Program.
Our outpatient programs also include a Mental Health Clinic, an Eating Disorders Program
and a Chemical Dependency Program.
The Behavioral Health Services staff consists of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse
practitioners, psychiatric nurses, mental health technicians, licensed clinical social
workers, recreation therapists and certified alcohol and substance abuse counselors
trained to help you with your particular issue.

12. The Barbary Lion
Appearance
The male Barbary lion commonly weighed between 500-600 lbs while the females
weighed between 300-400 lbs. This is 50% more than what the African lion weighs.
Its body was shorter than its Asian and African counterparts, but it could grow up to
11 feet in length. Its legs being shorter contributed to its overall muscular
appearance. One distinguishing feature was that its mane extended down the chest
through the front legs, through the underside of its belly, to the groin. The mane was
very thick and dark. The color of the mane was one of the many variants of blonde,
depending on the age, gender, and physical condition of the lion.
Hunting Technique
Its prey included Barbary sheep, gazelle, wild boar, and the red deer. Carcasses
that have been found have indicated that the main method of hunting resembled
that of all other lions. It was death by strangulation, where the lion would chase
down a prey and sink its teeth into the neck. Since it lived in mountainous terrain,
it had a solitary existence or occasionally lived in pairs. Females raised their young
until maturity - approximately 2 years -and then separated from them.

• No Friday Classes – Evening programs run Monday through Thursday, and not Friday, leaving you to study and attend to
other duties over a full weekend.

later in the day.
• Choice of Location – Because traveling at night may be an issue, you have the choice of attending classes at the
vocational school campus closer to your home, either in Nassau (Levittown) or Suffolk (Medford).
• Same Quality – You get the same quality instruction and features at night as are offered during the day. No corners are
cut.
• Better Retention – Some vocational school students find that they are more apt to retain class material in the evening and
better able to process and absorb information without the distractions of the day.
• Good Times – Laughter and conversation are often fostered by the later time of day, making vocational classes more fun
than they might otherwise be.
