In recenttimesIhave beenworkingparttime ona bakeryprojectinNaples,Italywithanex-
colleague of mine.Precedingthataftera recentshortperiodawayfrom work to deal withthe
bereavementof averyclose relative,withinthe secondhalf of 2015 I was on a management
advisory assignmentinthe bakeryindustryin Stratford, EastLondon forMr Bagels Ltd.
From June 2014 to March 2015, as General Manager,I ran the Sargents bakeryoperationin
Doncaster.Thiswas a longstandingbakerybusinessoperatinginfruit/mince pies categoryand
bakery tarts market.The companyhad a successful 2014 exceedingitsfinancialandoperating
targetsand at the same time I overhauleditsmanagement andoperations,recruitingand
refininganewteam,andmakingsignificantstrategicinroadswithnew large customers.
From May 2013 to May 2014, I was initially basedinSouth Wales,andlatterlyNorthernIreland,
workingat Evron/Easibake Foods.Taskedwith takingdirectcontrol of the Pontypool bakery
operations (circa£15M turnover,150 employees),totallyrestructuringthe managementteam
and the site’s priorities/objectives. Duringthe later6months,whilststill overseeingthe Wales
bakery,Ibecame much more involvedinrunningthe total groupbusiness(circa£40M turnover)
advisingthe ownersonoverall businessstructure anddirection,takingdirective actioninkey
areas, and becomingincreasinglyinvolved inthe commercial andstrategicside of the business.
InterimManaging Director Montana Bakery Oct 2012 to April 2013
Alongside the businessowner,assumedthe Leadership of this£16 millioncraftspecialitybakery
businesssupplyingmajorretailers,UKFoodserviceandsome Europeanexportbusiness. Within
6 months hadrestructuredbothoperations andmanagement- reducingcostsandincreasing
efficiency,andatthe same time launchedsome new productswithkeyUKretailersto
significantlyimprove sales.A successful period of improvedbusinessprofitability,whichnow
allowsthe ownertotake the businessfurtherforwardinamuch more co-ordinatedway.
