Executive Summary
In clinical practice, there is always a case to solve every day which involves making decisions which are fair or unfair. There is always a criterion to use when making such decisions and that involves ethical or moral theories and practices.
Consequentialist Theory
Consequentialists argue that the moral value of anything lies in its impact. The most influential type of consequentialist theory is the utilitarianism theory which was founded and promoted by Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill in 18th and 19th century respectively. They argued that utility is the principle that judges moral thinking through maximization of happiness and minimization of suffering (Bentham 2012). Some welfare-utilitarian argue enhancing or lowering human welfare while preference utilitarian’s aim at establishing and satisfying human preferences in their actions. I have to use this theory in accepting the client since that is the morally right thing to do.
Deontological Theory
This theory criticizes the consequentialist one as it focuses on the ways of meeting one’s goals meaning it may overlook the moral importance. The theory uses rules rather than consequences in justifying an action (Ethical Theories 1983). Kant in his theory argued that rules had to comply with categorical imperative which holds that: Moral rules should be applied to all rational and moral society members but not to some. All individuals should be treated never simply as means but rather as ends themselves. Members of a moral society should have a hand in making laws and live by them. This theory is depicted in the idea of duties psychologists owe to patients on their duty of care and duty of not harming them.
Casuistry
This case-based reasoning focuses on practical decision-making in specific cases based on precedent but not on rules. It first identifies the specific feature of a case, makes a comparison to other similar cases and experience and tries to identify similarities and differences between them. It is useful when discussing the best patient interests (Lodge 2014). Considering other few preceding cases of homosexuality, one must handle the case recognizing gay marriage was recently legalized.
Principles
a. Respect for autonomy: This involves respect for decision-making abilities of individuals through enabling them to make informed decisions and allowing them to live their life so long as it does not affect the welfare of others (Anshen, 1969)
b. Beneficence: This involves balancing the benefits of treatment against the risks and costs of the same.
c. Non-maleficence: This involves the professional not harming the patient or avoiding causing harm.

uses of logical fallacies and rhetorical appeals in the
healthcare field.
The Krishen and Bui (2015) article discusses the active
use of logical fallacies to manipulate obese consumers
into making better health choices through two
oppositional approaches: fear tactics and positive
reinforcement.
The Giachino, Stupino, Peratulo, and Bertoldi (2017)
article presents a study of fear tactics applied through
social advertising, similar to the ads we discussed in our
Week 3 discussion boards. Students were exposed to
fear advertising in an attempt to reduce high speed
driving.
Part 2: Application
Apply what you have learned about logical fallacies and
rhetorical appeals to interpret and summarize the
articles. Consider the following questions:
If the participants are aware of misleading
manipulation techniques, are they immune to their
effects?
What are the limitations of these types of fear
inducing tactics?
How would you react if you were a subject in one
of these studies?
What can we take away from these articles to
apply in our own topics?

ABSTRACT : This study reveals that systemic corruption and other factors including poor leadership,
leadership recruitment processes, ethnic and regional politics, tribalism and mediocrity, poor planning, and
variation of project design have been the causative factors that undermine projects implementation in postindependence African states, particularly in Nigeria. The study, thus, argued that successive governments of
African states, using Nigeria as a case study, have been deeply engrossed in this obnoxious practice that has
undermined infrastructure sector development as well as enthroned impoverishment and mass poverty in these
African countries. This study, therefore, is posed to examine the similarities in causative factors, effects and
consequences of corruption and how it affects governance, projects implementation and national growth. To
achieve this, the study adopted historical research design which is qualitative and explorative in nature. The
study among others suggests that the governments of developing countries should shun corruption and other
forms of obnoxious practices in order to operate effective and efficient systems that promote good governance
and ensure there is adequate projects implementation which are the attributes of a responsible government and
good leadership. Policy makers should also prioritize policy objectives and competence to ensure that policies
are fully implemented within stipulated time frame.

Exploring Factors Affecting the Success of TVET-Industry Partnership: A Case ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to explore factors affecting the success of TVET-industry
partnerships. A case study design of the qualitative research method was used to achieve this objective. For the
study, one polytechnic college of Oromia regional state, and two industries were purposively selected. From the
sample polytechnic college and industries, a total of 17 sample respondents were selected. Out of 17
respondents, 10 respondents were selected using the snowball sampling method, and the rest 7 respondents were
selected using the purposive sampling technique. The qualitative data were collected through an in-depth
interview and document analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic approaches. The findings revealed that
TVET-industry partnerships were found weak. Lack of key stakeholder‟s awareness shortage of improved
training equipment and machines in polytechnic colleges, absence of trainee health insurance policy, lack of
incentive mechanisms for private industries, lack of employer industries involvement in designing and
developing occupational standards, and preparation of curriculum were some of the impediments of TVETindustry partnership. Based on the findings it was recommended that the Oromia TVET bureau in collaboration
with other relevant concerned regional authorities and TVET colleges, set new strategies for creating strong
awareness for industries, companies, and other relevant stakeholders on the purpose and advantages of
implementing successful TVET-industry partnership. Finally, the Oromia regional government in collaboration
with the TVET bureau needs to create policy-supported incentive strategies such as giving occasional privileges
of duty-free import, tax reduction, and regional government recognition awards based on the level of partnership
contribution to TVET institutions in promoting TVET-industry partnership.

ABSTRACT: Although a significant amount of literature exists on Morocco's migration policies and their
successes and failures since their implementation in 2014, there is limited research on the integration of subSaharan African children into schools. This paperis part of a Ph.D. research project that aims to fill this gap. It
reports the main findings of a study conducted with migrant children enrolled in two public schools in Rabat,
Morocco, exploring how integration is defined by the children themselves and identifying the obstacles that they
have encountered thus far. The following paper uses an inductive approach and primarily focuses on the
relationships of children with their teachers and peers as a key aspect of integration for students with a migration
background. The study has led to several crucial findings. It emphasizes the significance of speaking Colloquial
Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and being part of a community for effective integration. Moreover, it reveals that the
use of Modern Standard Arabic as the language of instruction in schools is a source of frustration for students,
indicating the need for language policy reform. The study underlines the importanceof considering the
children‟s agency when being integrated into mainstream public schools.

ABSTRACT: This research aims to examine how ESG disclosure and risk disclosure affect the total risk of
companies. Using cross section data from 355 companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange, data regarding
ESG disclosure and risk was collected. In this research, ESG and risk disclosures are measured based on content
analysis using GRI 4 guidelines for ESG disclosures and COSO ERM for risk disclosures. Using multiple
regression, it is concluded that only risk disclosure can reduce the company's total risk, while ESG disclosure
cannot affect the company's total risk. This shows that only risk disclosure is relevant in determining a
company's total risk.

2. Background Information
In 2015, Kim Kardashian posted an Instagram post containing a sponsored advertisement for the prescription drug
called Diclegis. The drug is used to treat nausea in pregnant women. However, Kardashian’s Instagram post did not
contain any information regarding the dangers or side effects of the drug. Later, the FDA ordered the drug company
to have Kim Kardashian remove the post because it does not follow the guidelines required when advertising
prescription drugs. The ethical issue that arises with this situation is that the post only included positive information
about the drug, when in reality, drug advertisements must include information regarding side effects as well.

Strategic Communication has come to face new
problems with the constant technological
innovations. Advertising has changed throughout
the years and is now done in different ways than it
used to be. With the rise in social media and other
new forms of communication, new ethical issues
obviously arise. This chapter also talks about the
theory of persuasion in general. On page 69, the
book states “The ethical goal of advertising should
be the empowerment of multiple stakeholders--
from those who need to buy, those who need to
sell, those who live in a community fueled by
commerce and tax dollars, and finally those who
depend on advertising-supported news to be
participatory citizens in a democracy.”
5. TARES Test
Are the ad claims truthful?
Kardashian’s advertisement was not truthful because it failed to mention the negative factors about the drug.
Is the ad claim authentic?
I believe that the ad is authentic and that Kim Kardashian does, in fact, advocate for the product.
Does the ad treat the receiver with respect?
In my opinion, there was nothing “disrespectful” about Kardashian’s post.
Is there equity between the sender and the receiver?
No, I believe that Kim Kardashian posted a message that is not impartial.
Is the ad socially responsible?
No, in my opinion, the ad would only be socially responsible if it contained all information about the drug.
6. Philosophical Perspectives
Aristotle believes in a person’s individual motivations, ethics, and reasonings. I believe that Aristotle
would think that Kim Kardashian is typically ethical. However, he would also think about her
motivations behind the post, which is probably to get paid. I think that Aristotle would rule this issue
as unethical.
Kant believes in the principle of universal law. Kant would rule this situation unethical because it is
always wrong to not disclose important information regarding drugs. These drugs are to be put in
women’s bodies. They should know the side effects and risks like any other drug.
Mills believes in the principle that the consequence of the action is more important than the action
itself. I think that Mills would rule this issue as ethical because the drug could be helpful to many
women that need it.

Per FDA regulations, all prescription drug
promotion must:

Prescribing Information (PI);
● be truthful and non-misleading;
● contain a fair balance of product
benefits and risks; and include
material information.

8. Ethical or Unethical?
In my opinion, this issue should be ruled unethical. According to background information
of the case and the additional research I did, I have understood the whole situation and
taken into account philosophical principles. I also performed the TARES Test in attempt
to better determine the ethical worthiness of the issue. The FDA Code of Ethics
specifically, rules the advertisement to be false and misleading. Kim Kardashian did not
include any negative information about the drug, so she was unethical in posting the
advertisement. She could have avoided this scandal by simply having a fair balance of
information.
