PREFACE
1. Hearing the word of God with reverence and proclaiming it with faith, the sacred synod takes its direction from these words of St. John: "We
announce to you the eternal life which dwelt with the Father and was made visible to us. What we have seen and heard we announce to you, so that
you may have fellowship with us and our common fellowship be with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 1:2–3). Therefore, following in the
footsteps...show more content...
The Christian dispensation, therefore, as the new and definitive covenant, will never pass away and we now await no further new public revelation
before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ (see 1 Tim. 6:14 and Tit. 2:13).
5. "The obedience of faith" (Rom. 13:26; see 1:5; 2 Cor. 10:5–6) "is to be given to God who reveals, an obedience by which man commits his whole
self freely to God, offering the full submission of intellect and will to God who reveals,"[4] and freely assenting to the truth revealed by Him. To
make this act of faith, the grace of God and the interior help of the Holy Spirit must precede and assist, moving the heart and turning it to God,
opening the eyes of the mind and giving "joy and ease to everyone in assenting to the truth and believing it."[5] To bring about an ever deeper
understanding of revelation the same Holy Spirit constantly brings faith to completion by His gifts.
6. Through divine revelation, God chose to show forth and communicate Himself and the eternal decisions of His will regarding the salvation of men.
That is to say, He chose to share with them those divine treasures which totally transcend the understanding of the human mind.[6]
As a sacred synod has affirmed, God, the beginning and end of all things, can be known with certainty from created reality by the light of human reason
(see Rom. 1:20); but teaches that it is through His revelation that those

History has referred to her as "the Jackie Robinson of tennis" for breaking the color barrier. On August 22, 1950, Althea Gibson, an American
sportswoman, became the first African–American woman to be a competitor on the world tennis tour. She was the first to win a 'grand slam' title in
1957. She was a pioneer in both amateur tennis and professional golf forging a road for future greats to include Tiger Woods and Venus Williams.
She was also the first black woman on the LPGA tour. Althea Gibson was born during 1927 in Silver, South Carolina as the daughter of sharecroppers
born and raised in Harlem. By all accounts, she was a troubled school student and frequently ran away from home. She did, however, have a passion

She received training from Dr. Walter Johnson, a Lynchburg, Virginia, physician. Showing athletic prowess and passion for the sport, Gibson moved to
Wilmington, North Carolina in 1946 for further tennis training. In 1947, when she was just 20, she won the first of 10 consecutive national
championships she participated in. The American Tennis Association was the governing body for a still segregated sport, black tournaments. At the
age of 23, Gibson participated in the 1950 US Championships. Gibson went on to pursuie her education and improved her skill on the the tennis courts.
In 1953, she graduated, through a tennis and basketball scholarship, from Florida A&M University and moved to Jefferson City, MO where she worked
at Lincoln University as an athletic instructor. Gibson, by this time, could now compete against tennis players globally because the segregation barrier
had been somewhat transcended. She won the 1955 Italian Championships and the following year, her first Grand Slam titles win, capturing the French
Championships in singles and in doubles with partner, Angela Buxton. Gibson became the first black person to win a title at Wimbledon, capturing the

Title IX: An Outcast Analysis
The podcast that we listened to on Title IX strongly shows that women will find a way to seek justice. This justice is sought out by using legislation
to produce a safer atmosphere on college campuses. The podcast is extremely informative on what has happened on college campuses and how Title
IX is about more than just sports and funding. During the podcast, Title IX is talked about in–depth. In the beginning, the listner is informed that "Title
IX is the federal law that prohibits gender discrimination in educational institutions that receive funding from the federal government." This piece
of legislation was passed in 1972 and allowed for women to gain access to opportunities. Educational settings began unraveling for women, but the
women were not safe. The first person to use Title IX was a student at Harvard College who was sexually assaulted. She used this law to say that the
college did not give her an equal education if she was not safe. If a man is safe, but a woman is not than that is unequal. Another situation where
women tried to seek justice was in 2013 at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Five victims claimed that they told the university that their
rights had been violated by a perpetrator who sexually assaulted them as well as...show more content...
In the middle of the podcast, it states that "The ACT in One ACT is an acronym. It stands for Ask for help, Create a distraction, and Talk directly."
This group supports bystander intervention, because we are more likely to prevent this horrible event if we involve more people like the community.
If an idea could be added to ways to prevent sexual assault it would be educating women on how they can defend themselves in a case of sexual assault.
This can be achieved in different forms from teaching self–defense classes to educating students on the warning signs that someone may possibly
sexually assault an

Student Athletes: An Analysis
In addition to providing athletes with more playing opportunities, Title IX is also known for helping girls gain more confidence, gain psychological
benefits and do well in school. It helps boost some of the essential characteristics a leader should have. In fact, "in a 2001 survey of high–level female
business executives, a majority of those women credited their past participation with helping to develop their business skills, 86% said sport
participation helped improve their self–discipline, 82% their teamwork, 69% their leadership skills, and 59% their competitiveness" (Claussen 4).

Analysis: Female Athletes Beating The Odds
Female Athletes Beating the Odds
A very simple way to define gender roles according to Twellimona Haihambo in her article "Gender Roles and Gender Equality" could be ". . . those
behaviors, tasks and responsibilities that a society considers appropriate for men, women, boys and girls" (Sister Namibia p. 24). In other words,
society tends to dictate the rules that men and women would abide by. As a result, all sexes have been greatly affected to some extent by a conventional
gender role imposed upon them by society. Mostly in the sports industry, all kinds of restrictions surged from everywhere, weakening women strengths
and capabilities while favoring men and nurturing a machismo society.
According to an article found on "Northnet.org" that...show more content...

2004, and 1.4 percent in 2010–abysmal across the board" (www.DailyBeast.com). Why? A proposed answer to this question could be "Because people

Should Girls Be Allowed To Play Sports Teams?
Even though some of the boys think that girls are weak, girls are starting to have more confidence to try and play boys sports more and more every
day. Men around the world think that girls shouldn't play on by sports teams. Some men think that girls shouldn't play on boys sports teams because
they don't have the same physical experience than them. That girl should play on sports teams because not every girl is weak like some boys think
that they are. Girls are getting more interested in sports and wanting to play with the boys to not look so weak as they think that they are. Title IX
allows schools to decide what teams they will offer, both men's and women's, athletic programs with disproportionate participation numbers can still
comply with Title IX as long as other measures have equity progress and interest is present.
Girls who play in sports have a good self–esteem because they don't feel weak or inferior and it helps them be confident in themselves. Some men
believe that men and women are not the same and that their interest in organized sports is not the same. Some men to this day believe that girls and

A Wrinkle In Time Title Analysis
A Wrinkle In time by Madeleine L'Engle has a great title and provides the book with a confusing background. I think that the title of this book is
really effective because it will provide mystery and confusion to the reader even opens up the book, making the reader want to read the book.
First, the title A Wrinkle In Time seems to describe some sort of irregularity of some sort in time, which seems confusing to me, and most likely
everyone else. When I first read the title, it made me perplexed because I never heard about some sort of "wrinkle" in time, and the title made me
want to figure out what this meant by reading the book. Since this title is most likely confusing to others, it will lead them to read the book, just like I
did. I thought

Discrimination Of People in the Workplace
Does Discrimination still exist in the work environment? You bet. This paper focuses on discrimination laws that help women and men, who are

Women In College Sports
The articles, "Title IX Under Fire As Colleges Cut Teams" by Jean Marbella and Carrie Wells and "40 Years Later, Title IX Is Still Fighting
Perception It Hurts Men's Sports" by Gloria Goodale, share different viewpoints on Title IX. Marbella and Wells share details and statistics showing
that men's teams are sometimes cut in order to meet Title IX's requirements. However, Goodale counters that the reasons for the teams being cut was
not Title IX, but the budgets of the university. She explains that Title IX is being framed for these incidents (Goodale). Goodale and Marbella and
Wells argue two different viewpoints on the Title IX.
Title IX is beneficial to women in college sports. For starters, Title IX focuses on access and participation....show more content...
It is true that some men's teams have been cut due to the inability to meet the requirements of Title IX. In actuality, It is not because of Title IX, but
because of low budgets and administrative decisions. An alternative would be to reduce the funds that go into publicity sports, such as football and
baseball. Many argue that adding women's teams does not work. While it is true that some schools have been unsuccessful in the past, A lot of
schools have managed to accomplish this. Even Marbella and Wells cite that ВЁSchools such as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore have
started women's bowling teamsВЁ. Though some people may argue that it does more harm than good, Title IX should remain in action. Goodale and
Marbella and Wells share two differing viewpoints on the effects of Title IX. Marbella and Wells argue that Title IX puts men at a disadvantage.
Goodale refutes their claim with evidence that Title IX gives women a fair opportunity. Although some men's teams have been cut, women have been
given a fair chance. Title IX gives women exactly want they need, a fair chance to join college

of Secondary School Principals, as well as many educators, fully supported the resolution and so they put pressure on high school sports association to
end their tournaments. Educators wanted women to only play sports at their own college, between one another. Most educators saw women playing
intercollegiate sports as unladylike and sometimes unsafe. Halfway into the 1930s women competitive sports had mostly disappeared in many states.
The issue regarding whether or not women should be allowed to play sports would not be settled until Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of
1972 was put into law. Title IX stated that no person in theUnited States shall, "on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the
benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." It would open the door
for new possibilities for women such as Margaret Wade, whose basketball career and story would not end after college. Margaret Wade's life

Champion Research Paper
In general terms, a champion is defined as someone who holds first place or wins first prize in a contest. Someone who is first, which means they
have achieved the maximum amount of accomplishment available. They have exceeded all expectations, and they have won. Some say a champion is
born, others believe they are bred. They are built and thus build themselves into the leaders they are destined to be. In response to the previous
statement, who is worthy of being a champion? What does it take to be great? The theory of obtaining the title of champion has been dramatically
changed within this basic interpretation. Being a champion does not necessarily mean being undefeated, or even winning anything at all. It is referred
to as being strong–willed,...show more content...
Weather it be overcoming a sudden obstacle or breaking a habit developed years prior. Every negative circumstance is an opportunity to gain
knowledge. A champion, in terms of approaching these negative situations will promptly decide what must and will be done to control the
problem. Another individual may break down the situation to analyze and process the information before making a decision. When in doubt, a
differentiating individual may ask for assistance with the task at hand to gain feedback from someone who may have experienced a similar
situation. In all of these scenarios, the role of champion is thoroughly fulfilled. The overall attitude and mindset of each individual may have
influenced them to go about the particular situation in a fashion some what different from the next individual. However, each person effectively
solved the problem at hand without panicking, or losing hope within themselves. Not to say that a loss of self confidence would deem you
unworthy of championship. It is what you decide to do with that lack of confidence that is the initial point of view. Will you take that lack of
confidence and attempt to enhance it, or will you remain where you are without proper reason, because to you the lack of self confidence is a logical
excuse for not achieving? A champion is not someone who is not afraid. It is someone who is aware of the stereotypes associated with the position and
choose not to adhere to them. A champion may be afraid and will not attempt in any manor to hide it. This is because being a champion does not make
you superhuman, you are still human and therefore subject to

Cotillion Research Paper
In the 6th grade, most of the Jewish students at Kenter Canyon Elementary were forced to participate in a time honored tradition called Cotillion. It
was held at University Synagogue on Sunset Blvd in Brentwood. Joining us were other unfortunates from nearby grammar schools whose parents
(mothers) felt it this, shall we say "tradition," was one of the important steps needed in to assure that we would become loyal Americans and
efficacious adults. The other 'musts' were Bar Mitzvahs (Bot Mitzvahs were voluntary for girls), college degrees, standing under a chuppah, and
providing grandchildren. Preferably in that order. Very few of us were members of the congregation, but the synagogue wasn't too proud to accept our

a little bump up the corporate ladder. I recall once I was promoted to "Account Manager," the task of entertaining big clients was just part of the job.
Males in with the same job title had expense accounts to cover "business" lunches/dinners, just like I did/ But the biggest difference was they were
allotted funds for "Girly Bars," and prostitutes under the heading of "entertainment." I was not. When I asked if I could take clients to a play or event

Sexism In Basketball
Even from the start of the game of basketball it was seen as a male sport. The creator of basketball Dr. James Naismith, a physical education instructor
at the YMCA College in Springfield, Massachusetts, formed the sport in 1891 as a way to condition outdoor athletes during the winter months. Not
until a year later did a gymnastics instructor Senda Berenson Abbott adapt Dr.James Naismith's basketball rules for women.
Basketball is one of the biggest sports in America. It is also popular around the worlds. Men's basketball, in particular, is given much more preference
in American society. Many would argue that the comparison of the two simply boils down to sexism in sports, where people downgrade the strength
and athletic ability of women in our society according to typical gender roles. However, there may be more confounding factors that are generally
overlooked.
Men's college basketball teams are able to be transported on planes and dine on steak, while a women's team from the same college, travels in a van
and eats fast food? It's not fair, but this occurs often nowadays even with laws passed preventing this type of discrimination. Today there are some
problems in high schools that give a disadvantage to the girls such as, insufficient scholarships for girls, not enough coaching...show more content...

Still Learning From My Mother Analysis
Question 1. In the Newsweek essay "Still Learning from My Mother," Cliff Schneider talks about life lessons he still learns from his 79–year–old
mother. Schneider vividly describes his mother in her youth as being very gracious but also very competitive and great at sports. As the years go
by his mom grows old and slowly realizes that she is not as physically young as she once was. Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in any
educational program or activity receiving any type of federal financial aid. The tone of the atmosphere was funny, and inspiring, because no matter
how old the lady was she still wanted to tact young. Question 2. The author used a lot of vivid description. Some examples of figure of speech are in

Honor : High Respect For Someone Or Something
Honor: High respect for someone or something. To me honor is kindness, someone to depend on, the "hero" of the story.
Ever wonder who was the first computer program? No? Me neither. But that's because I was never into computers much.
The first programer was a woman, her name was Ada Lovelace.
Yep, it was a woman. But before I tell you all about the program, let's learn about her first. Ada "Countess of Lovelace" was born in 1815 and died in
1852. Her father was George Gordon Byron, who was a poet. But he died in Greece when she was 8.
Ada was young when she started to show an interest in science and mathematics. Her mother thought that if she studied at that age, she wouldn't inherit
her father's temper. Also, for self–control, her mother made her lie still for a long time. Ada received many letters from other scientists as well.
Including William Frend, William King, and Mary Somerville. At 17 she made a friend and together they helped each other. His name wasCharles
Babbage, another mathematician. She was fascinated with his work. Then someone asked her to translate an article from Babbage's analytical engine,
but she didn't just translare it, she added a few thoughts to it too. She wrote how the codes could be created for the device to not only handle numbers,
but letters and symbols too. Also to make it where the engine to repeat certain instructions. She was considered the first programer in history. Though,
while she was alive, her work wasn't that known by

Persuasive Speech For Women In Sports
Women and Sports
Over the years there has been several reasons why people argued the point of whether women should be allowed to participate in sports. Society used
the excuse that women are weaker than men resulting in the conclusion that women could not handle the competitive atmosphere that playing a sport
brings. Another reasoning was that past cultures and religion did not allow women to be involved in activities other than the normal womanly duties.
This unjust nature of believing that women are less than men or that men are superior just because is not acceptable and should not be tolerated. As
Sandra Coney says in an article, "New Zealand has been called a man's country. Sporting contest have been a male proving ground and a source of
identity and pride" (Coney). This quote proves that it is not just one area or one country where the male species is the higher of the two genders, it is a
worldwide issue. Although some may think women should not be involved in sports, many disagree and believe that the involvement of women in
sports can benefit society.
Since women have been allowed to participate in sports, the global community has become a closer knit. Scholars and organizations have
acknowledged this and moved their focus to helping women gain equality in several different aspects. One being the passing of title xl, which protects
individuals from discrimination under any education program or activity that receives federal funding. This one action has helped shift

The Influences Of Title IX
Influences from Title IX: It has been forty years since the Title IX law was passed. Title IX was formed to give men and women equal opportunities.
Jobs, scholarships, recruitment of student athletes, and even housing and dining services are equally available to men and women thanks to Title IX.
Before passing the law, women were sitting on the sidelines. Women were not allowed to participate in most sports. While men were getting all the
attention for sports, women sat there and hoped that one day they would be recognized. It is/was everyone's dream to become "known." To become a
"somebody," women just wanted equality. In 1972, that became an actual opportunity. Many women have been so thankful to Title IX. Kris Miller, an

The Pros And Cons Of Title IX
Title IX came to be in 1972. It was put in place by Congress and became an educational amendment. This law has specific sections, and one section
states that girls and women who are in federally– funded education programs also including athletics are not to be discriminated against. It is no secret
that females have more of a hardship than men in a lot of areas with sports being one of those top areas. This amendment ensures that girls and women
will get the same opportunity and fairness in athletics just like men do. In result, females have even had better facilities as well as the equal
opportunities. Things have gotten better for females, but this amendment was not welcomed in the beginning when it was first implemented. People
complained that boy's/men's sports would suffer a loss because of this, specifically the NCAA and high school administrators. "Title IX passed with
little controversy in 1972. Soon after Title IX passed, however, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and high school administrators
complained that boys' sports would suffer if girls' sports had to be funded equally. Regulations about how to implement the law were not released until
two years later, and these regulations did not go into effect until July 1975. Even then, the Office of...show more content...

force any situation on a student. When this happens, their rights are not being respected. Title IX is there to help and not to harass, but sometimes
makes the mistake of doing so without realizing it. This story is an example of how Title IX also has its own difficulties when dealing with different
issues and the flaws in the steps being taken when investigation occurs. Due to this incident, Title IX is taking steps to make sure that the victim's First
Amendment rights are being respected

  • 1. Title DOGMATIC CONSTITUTION ON DIVINE REVELATION Dei Verbum Solemnly Promulgated by His Holiness, Pope Paul VI on November 18, 1965 The full text is available at http://www.cin.org/v2revel.html Numbers in square brackets [x] are footnotes which are found at the end of the document. PREFACE 1. Hearing the word of God with reverence and proclaiming it with faith, the sacred synod takes its direction from these words of St. John: "We announce to you the eternal life which dwelt with the Father and was made visible to us. What we have seen and heard we announce to you, so that you may have fellowship with us and our common fellowship be with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 1:2–3). Therefore, following in the footsteps...show more content... The Christian dispensation, therefore, as the new and definitive covenant, will never pass away and we now await no further new public revelation before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ (see 1 Tim. 6:14 and Tit. 2:13). 5. "The obedience of faith" (Rom. 13:26; see 1:5; 2 Cor. 10:5–6) "is to be given to God who reveals, an obedience by which man commits his whole self freely to God, offering the full submission of intellect and will to God who reveals,"[4] and freely assenting to the truth revealed by Him. To make this act of faith, the grace of God and the interior help of the Holy Spirit must precede and assist, moving the heart and turning it to God, opening the eyes of the mind and giving "joy and ease to everyone in assenting to the truth and believing it."[5] To bring about an ever deeper understanding of revelation the same Holy Spirit constantly brings faith to completion by His gifts. 6. Through divine revelation, God chose to show forth and communicate Himself and the eternal decisions of His will regarding the salvation of men. That is to say, He chose to share with them those divine treasures which totally transcend the understanding of the human mind.[6]
  • 2. As a sacred synod has affirmed, God, the beginning and end of all things, can be known with certainty from created reality by the light of human reason (see Rom. 1:20); but teaches that it is through His revelation that those Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Althee Gibson Research Paper History has referred to her as "the Jackie Robinson of tennis" for breaking the color barrier. On August 22, 1950, Althea Gibson, an American sportswoman, became the first African–American woman to be a competitor on the world tennis tour. She was the first to win a 'grand slam' title in 1957. She was a pioneer in both amateur tennis and professional golf forging a road for future greats to include Tiger Woods and Venus Williams. She was also the first black woman on the LPGA tour. Althea Gibson was born during 1927 in Silver, South Carolina as the daughter of sharecroppers born and raised in Harlem. By all accounts, she was a troubled school student and frequently ran away from home. She did, however, have a passion for horsemanship,...show more content... She received training from Dr. Walter Johnson, a Lynchburg, Virginia, physician. Showing athletic prowess and passion for the sport, Gibson moved to Wilmington, North Carolina in 1946 for further tennis training. In 1947, when she was just 20, she won the first of 10 consecutive national championships she participated in. The American Tennis Association was the governing body for a still segregated sport, black tournaments. At the age of 23, Gibson participated in the 1950 US Championships. Gibson went on to pursuie her education and improved her skill on the the tennis courts. In 1953, she graduated, through a tennis and basketball scholarship, from Florida A&M University and moved to Jefferson City, MO where she worked at Lincoln University as an athletic instructor. Gibson, by this time, could now compete against tennis players globally because the segregation barrier had been somewhat transcended. She won the 1955 Italian Championships and the following year, her first Grand Slam titles win, capturing the French Championships in singles and in doubles with partner, Angela Buxton. • 4. Title IX: An Outcast Analysis The podcast that we listened to on Title IX strongly shows that women will find a way to seek justice. This justice is sought out by using legislation to produce a safer atmosphere on college campuses. The podcast is extremely informative on what has happened on college campuses and how Title IX is about more than just sports and funding. During the podcast, Title IX is talked about in–depth. In the beginning, the listner is informed that "Title IX is the federal law that prohibits gender discrimination in educational institutions that receive funding from the federal government." This piece of legislation was passed in 1972 and allowed for women to gain access to opportunities. Educational settings began unraveling for women, but the women were not safe. The first person to use Title IX was a student at Harvard College who was sexually assaulted. She used this law to say that the college did not give her an equal education if she was not safe. If a man is safe, but a woman is not than that is unequal. Another situation where women tried to seek justice was in 2013 at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Five victims claimed that they told the university that their rights had been violated by a perpetrator who sexually assaulted them as well as...show more content... In the middle of the podcast, it states that "The ACT in One ACT is an acronym. It stands for Ask for help, Create a distraction, and Talk directly." This group supports bystander intervention, because we are more likely to prevent this horrible event if we involve more people like the community. If an idea could be added to ways to prevent sexual assault it would be educating women on how they can defend themselves in a case of sexual assault. This can be achieved in different forms from teaching self–defense classes to educating students on the warning signs that someone may possibly sexually assault an Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Student Athletes: An Analysis In addition to providing athletes with more playing opportunities, Title IX is also known for helping girls gain more confidence, gain psychological benefits and do well in school. It helps boost some of the essential characteristics a leader should have. In fact, "in a 2001 survey of high–level female business executives, a majority of those women credited their past participation with helping to develop their business skills, 86% said sport participation helped improve their self–discipline, 82% their teamwork, 69% their leadership skills, and 59% their competitiveness" (Claussen 4). • 6. Analysis: Female Athletes Beating The Odds Female Athletes Beating the Odds A very simple way to define gender roles according to Twellimona Haihambo in her article "Gender Roles and Gender Equality" could be ". . . those behaviors, tasks and responsibilities that a society considers appropriate for men, women, boys and girls" (Sister Namibia p. 24). In other words, society tends to dictate the rules that men and women would abide by. As a result, all sexes have been greatly affected to some extent by a conventional gender role imposed upon them by society. Mostly in the sports industry, all kinds of restrictions surged from everywhere, weakening women strengths and capabilities while favoring men and nurturing a machismo society. Even though some of the boys think that girls are weak, girls are starting to have more confidence to try and play boys sports more and more every day. Men around the world think that girls shouldn't play on by sports teams. Some men think that girls shouldn't play on boys sports teams because they don't have the same physical experience than them. That girl should play on sports teams because not every girl is weak like some boys think that they are. Girls are getting more interested in sports and wanting to play with the boys to not look so weak as they think that they are. Title IX allows schools to decide what teams they will offer, both men's and women's, athletic programs with disproportionate participation numbers can still comply with Title IX as long as other measures have equity progress and interest is present. Girls who play in sports have a good self–esteem because they don't feel weak or inferior and it helps them be confident in themselves. I think that the title of this book is really effective because it will provide mystery and confusion to the reader even opens up the book, making the reader want to read the book. First, the title A Wrinkle In Time seems to describe some sort of irregularity of some sort in time, which seems confusing to me, and most likely everyone else. When I first read the title, it made me perplexed because I never heard about some sort of "wrinkle" in time, and the title made me want to figure out what this meant by reading the book. Since this title is most likely confusing to others, it will lead them to read the book, just like I did. I thought Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Women In College Sports The articles, "Title IX Under Fire As Colleges Cut Teams" by Jean Marbella and Carrie Wells and "40 Years Later, Title IX Is Still Fighting Perception It Hurts Men's Sports" by Gloria Goodale, share different viewpoints on Title IX. Marbella and Wells share details and statistics showing that men's teams are sometimes cut in order to meet Title IX's requirements. However, Goodale counters that the reasons for the teams being cut was not Title IX, but the budgets of the university. She explains that Title IX is being framed for these incidents (Goodale). In actuality, It is not because of Title IX, but because of low budgets and administrative decisions. An alternative would be to reduce the funds that go into publicity sports, such as football and baseball. Many argue that adding women's teams does not work. While it is true that some schools have been unsuccessful in the past, A lot of schools have managed to accomplish this. Even Marbella and Wells cite that ВЁSchools such as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore have started women's bowling teamsВЁ. The National Association of Secondary School Principals, as well as many educators, fully supported the resolution and so they put pressure on high school sports association to end their tournaments. Educators wanted women to only play sports at their own college, between one another. Most educators saw women playing intercollegiate sports as unladylike and sometimes unsafe. Halfway into the 1930s women competitive sports had mostly disappeared in many states. The issue regarding whether or not women should be allowed to play sports would not be settled until Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 was put into law. Title IX stated that no person in theUnited States shall, "on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Someone who is first, which means they have achieved the maximum amount of accomplishment available. They have exceeded all expectations, and they have won. Some say a champion is born, others believe they are bred. They are built and thus build themselves into the leaders they are destined to be. In response to the previous statement, who is worthy of being a champion? What does it take to be great? The theory of obtaining the title of champion has been dramatically changed within this basic interpretation. A champion, in terms of approaching these negative situations will promptly decide what must and will be done to control the problem. When in doubt, a differentiating individual may ask for assistance with the task at hand to gain feedback from someone who may have experienced a similar situation. In all of these scenarios, the role of champion is thoroughly fulfilled. The overall attitude and mindset of each individual may have influenced them to go about the particular situation in a fashion some what different from the next individual. However, each person effectively solved the problem at hand without panicking, or losing hope within themselves. Not to say that a loss of self confidence would deem you unworthy of championship. It is what you decide to do with that lack of confidence that is the initial point of view. Will you take that lack of confidence and attempt to enhance it, or will you remain where you are without proper reason, because to you the lack of self confidence is a logical excuse for not achieving? A champion is not someone who is not afraid. It is someone who is aware of the stereotypes associated with the position and choose not to adhere to them. They wanted to review the economic research on female intercollegiate athletes and women's athletics. In this study they wanted to find the answer two key research questions that were not answered. The first one being is there an economic basis for legislating equality of opportunity in intercollegiate athletics and what was the overall impact of Title IX on opportunities in intercollegiate athletics for all college students? To study the first question they brook it up in three areas which includes increased academic success of participants in intercollegiate athletics, higher graduation rates, and increased lifetime earnings. • 14. Cotillion Research Paper In the 6th grade, most of the Jewish students at Kenter Canyon Elementary were forced to participate in a time honored tradition called Cotillion. It was held at University Synagogue on Sunset Blvd in Brentwood. Joining us were other unfortunates from nearby grammar schools whose parents (mothers) felt it this, shall we say "tradition," was one of the important steps needed in to assure that we would become loyal Americans and efficacious adults. The other 'musts' were Bar Mitzvahs (Bot Mitzvahs were voluntary for girls), college degrees, standing under a chuppah, and providing grandchildren. Preferably in that order. Very few of us were members of the congregation, but the synagogue wasn't too proud to accept our money. Like...show more content... Sexual harassment. Those of us who desired the same type of jobs men always filled were caught in this demoralizing quandary. Once tearing up our membership cards to the "Love Generation," we expected our decorum, practices, and sometimes reckless behavior to recede in memories, along with our college persona (s). But new bosses, still 97% heterosexual male assumed, generally by virtue of our age would willing trade sex for a little bump up the corporate ladder. I recall once I was promoted to "Account Manager," the task of entertaining big clients was just part of the job. Males in with the same job title had expense accounts to cover "business" lunches/dinners, just like I did/ But the biggest difference was they were allotted funds for "Girly Bars," and prostitutes under the heading of "entertainment." I was not. When I asked if I could take clients to a play or event as a means of entertainment, I thought my boss was going to laugh himself into a stroke! Hey! YOU wanted the job, so YOU can entertain them! Somehow this was just not the future, I dreamed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Sexism In Basketball Even from the start of the game of basketball it was seen as a male sport. The creator of basketball Dr. James Naismith, a physical education instructor at the YMCA College in Springfield, Massachusetts, formed the sport in 1891 as a way to condition outdoor athletes during the winter months. Not until a year later did a gymnastics instructor Senda Berenson Abbott adapt Dr.James Naismith's basketball rules for women. Basketball is one of the biggest sports in America. It is also popular around the worlds. Men's basketball, in particular, is given much more preference in American society. Many would argue that the comparison of the two simply boils down to sexism in sports, where people downgrade the strength and athletic ability of women in our society according to typical gender roles. However, there may be more confounding factors that are generally overlooked. Men's college basketball teams are able to be transported on planes and dine on steak, while a women's team from the same college, travels in a van and eats fast food? It's not fair, but this occurs often nowadays even with laws passed preventing this type of discrimination. Today there are some problems in high schools that give a disadvantage to the girls such as, insufficient scholarships for girls, not enough coaching...show more content... No administrative act has had a more powerful impact on the world of sports other than Title IX. Before Title IX was passed, only 31,000 women participated in sports, but in 1997, 120,000 women were active in sports around the United States. Title IX is now identical with women trying to find equity in athletics, but it originally had nothing to do with sports. It was a part of a larger legislative act passed to avoid any type of discrimination in the school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Still Learning From My Mother Analysis Question 1. In the Newsweek essay "Still Learning from My Mother," Cliff Schneider talks about life lessons he still learns from his 79–year–old mother. Schneider vividly describes his mother in her youth as being very gracious but also very competitive and great at sports. As the years go by his mom grows old and slowly realizes that she is not as physically young as she once was. Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in any educational program or activity receiving any type of federal financial aid. The tone of the atmosphere was funny, and inspiring, because no matter how old the lady was she still wanted to tact young. Question 2. The author used a lot of vivid description. Some examples of figure of speech are in paragraph 2 and as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Honor : High Respect For Someone Or Something Honor: High respect for someone or something. Ada "Countess of Lovelace" was born in 1815 and died in 1852. Her father was George Gordon Byron, who was a poet. But he died in Greece when she was 8. Ada was young when she started to show an interest in science and mathematics. Her mother thought that if she studied at that age, she wouldn't inherit her father's temper. Also, for self–control, her mother made her lie still for a long time. Ada received many letters from other scientists as well. Including William Frend, William King, and Mary Somerville. At 17 she made a friend and together they helped each other. His name wasCharles Babbage, another mathematician. She was fascinated with his work. Then someone asked her to translate an article from Babbage's analytical engine, but she didn't just translare it, she added a few thoughts to it too. She wrote how the codes could be created for the device to not only handle numbers, but letters and symbols too. Also to make it where the engine to repeat certain instructions. She was considered the first programer in history. Though, while she was alive, her work wasn't that known by Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Speech For Women In Sports Women and Sports Over the years there has been several reasons why people argued the point of whether women should be allowed to participate in sports. Society used the excuse that women are weaker than men resulting in the conclusion that women could not handle the competitive atmosphere that playing a sport brings. Another reasoning was that past cultures and religion did not allow women to be involved in activities other than the normal womanly duties. This unjust nature of believing that women are less than men or that men are superior just because is not acceptable and should not be tolerated. As Sandra Coney says in an article, "New Zealand has been called a man's country. Sporting contest have been a male proving ground and a source of identity and pride" (Coney). This quote proves that it is not just one area or one country where the male species is the higher of the two genders, it is a worldwide issue. Although some may think women should not be involved in sports, many disagree and believe that the involvement of women in sports can benefit society. Since women have been allowed to participate in sports, the global community has become a closer knit. Scholars and organizations have acknowledged this and moved their focus to helping women gain equality in several different aspects. One being the passing of title xl, which protects individuals from discrimination under any education program or activity that receives federal funding. This one action has helped shift Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. The Influences Of Title IX Influences from Title IX: It has been forty years since the Title IX law was passed. Title IX was formed to give men and women equal opportunities. Jobs, scholarships, recruitment of student athletes, and even housing and dining services are equally available to men and women thanks to Title IX. Before passing the law, women were sitting on the sidelines. Women were not allowed to participate in most sports. While men were getting all the attention for sports, women sat there and hoped that one day they would be recognized. It is/was everyone's dream to become "known." To become a "somebody," women just wanted equality. In 1972, that became an actual opportunity. Many women have been so thankful to Title IX. • 20. The Pros And Cons Of Title IX Title IX came to be in 1972. It was put in place by Congress and became an educational amendment. This law has specific sections, and one section states that girls and women who are in federally– funded education programs also including athletics are not to be discriminated against. It is no secret that females have more of a hardship than men in a lot of areas with sports being one of those top areas. This amendment ensures that girls and women will get the same opportunity and fairness in athletics just like men do. In result, females have even had better facilities as well as the equal opportunities. Things have gotten better for females, but this amendment was not welcomed in the beginning when it was first implemented. People complained that boy's/men's sports would suffer a loss because of this, specifically the NCAA and high school administrators. "Title IX passed with little controversy in 1972. Soon after Title IX passed, however, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and high school administrators complained that boys' sports would suffer if girls' sports had to be funded equally. Regulations about how to implement the law were not released until two years later, and these regulations did not go into effect until July 1975. Even then, the Office of...show more content...
