level. Further, inmates comprise of people from different background. That is; differentrace, education levels, nationality, and religion (Wilkinson
1099). Essentially, prison system is designed to maintain law and order in the society. Mainly, correction faculties are equipped with educational,

Initially, prisons were designed as penitent– punitive in nature. This approach aims at issuing punishment to offenders or seeks retribution from those

When an individual is introduced to the prison life, after violating rules and laws, he or she must come to terms about the journey he or she are about

learn this langue because it was vital to communicate efficiently with other inmates. Inmates knew if they used the word "Punk or Niggas" there would

Prison life can be harsh, and time spent in a isolation is even worse. A majority of those in prison spend countless hours in idleness. It would be much
better if they used that time to reeducate themselves for a productive life on the outside. Some of the prisoners have serious emotional and mental
problems that are never addressed and it is illogical to not attempt to correct these problems before they are released.

Prison overcrowding is one of the most burdensome problems plaguing our criminal justice system, but privatization is not the answer. The federal
prison population increased by almost 800 percent between 1980 and 2013. (Pelaez, 2016).This is a much faster rate than the most state prisons could
accommodate in their own facilities. In an effort to manage the rising prison population, many states began contracting with privately operated
correctional institutions to house inmates. There are patterns of abuse, especially against the mentally ill in prisons operated by for–profit companies
such as the Corrections Corporations of America also known as "CCA". Many of these for profit corporations have been accused of providing
abysmal care to prisoners.
Corporate officials often have conflicting motivations to run these prisons and sacrifice the quality of care in their organizations in order to make a
profit. A majority of the problems arising in private prisons is due in part to lack of government oversight and insufficient accountability. In addition to

After watching both of these videos, it made me realize how much prison affects someone. In the US the prison system is completely different than the
prison system in Denmark. After watching Prison State, I didn't really know what the pros were of our prison system. I saw more cons than pros. I
was completely shocked by the way that Denmark runs their prison system. The video confused me a bit, so I did some research and found an article
that I understood a little bit better about Denmark's prison system. The US prison system is definitely more harsh on their inmates compared to

of controversy of a college swimmer named, Brock Turner. Turner attended Stanford University and was accused of raping an unconscious woman.
He was sentenced to six months in the county jail with probation, and also had to register as a sex offender. The judge of this case said that, "A
prison sentence would have a severe impact on him. I think he will not be a danger to others." After three short months at the Santa Clara County jail,

Prisoners have many things that they have to cope with while in prison. The most common thing is missing one's family or friends the next being
missing one's freedom. (Zamble, 91) These are only two examples of the numerous things that inmates have to cope with. They are moving into an
environment in which most of them have only heard about in movies or on television so they do not know what to expect. "The prison experience is
sufficiently powerful that it nullifies much of the variance among inmates, and they come to resemble each other much more than before
imprisonment." (Zamble, 92) Everything in prison is basically uniform and routine. When you create uniformity it takes away people's sense of self,

giving the mothers a reason to better their lives and turn them around. In Nebraska, no mother participating in the prison nursery program has tested
positive for drugs, which shows the positive impact the programs have had on inmates. Although there are many benefits to the program there are also
skeptics who say the prison nursery programs is in violation of the 14th amendment. The 14th amendment addresses the rights of citizens and the equal
protection of the law which is violated when a baby is incarcerated even though they have not been tried and found guilty.

The rate of crimes will be reduced if we stop sending criminals to prison. The prison is a great place to allow non–violent criminals become violent
because they will be communicating with violent criminals which give them a chance to learn how to do these crimes from people have long
experiences and history of crimes. In the study "Alternatives to Incarceration in a Nutshell," by Families Against Mandatory Minimums. It shows how
the criminals back to the prison in short time by states that "[o]ver 40% of all people leaving prison will reoffend and be back in prison within three
years of their release. Alternatives to prison such as drug and mental health courts are proven to confront the underlying causes of crime (i.e., drug
addiction and mental illness) and help prevent offenders from committing new crimes." Thus, if we use alternatives to prison to rehabilitation the
